Faith and Mission

Our students have been active over the past few weeks for social justice causes. Two weeks ago we had a sleepover to raise awareness about homelessness. Thirty brave souls slept outside for a short while before we headed into Kennedy Hall for a basic dinner of soup and rolls. Activities included information on the causes of homelessness and support services. Great thanks go to the 25 Year 10 to 12 students who attended, as well as the teachers who stayed, Ms Dunstan, Ms Scott and Ms Rountree as well as Mr Pearce. It was a wonderful experience and the students were fabulous in their participation.  Thank you also to Mr Pudney and Mr Anderson who accompanied another round of Killester students to Joey’s Van serving food to the disadvantaged in Dandenong.

Last Friday twelve students accompanied Mr Halliday and myself to the Climate Strike 4 Youth in the Treasury Gardens. It was amazing to see so many people who are concerned about the environment. Pope Francis has spoken so beautifully about our need to be stewards of creation in Laudato Si and our young people are often the one leading the way in voicing their concerns on these matters.

Finally, our Poor Person's Mass has been postponed. but thank you to so many of you for donating to St Vinnies who provide for the need of so many struggling people in our community.  I have been amazed at your generosity. In particular Year 10 St Thomas has filled several baskets over the past two weeks and Year 12 St Joseph has a bulging basket of donations.

Our Living Justice, Living Peace Charter from Kildare Ministries asks us to walk in solidarity with the poor. This is one simple way to bring this into action. Thanks to all our marvellous students and their families for their continuing support for the work of Christ.
