From the Classroom

Learning, Growing and Having Fun in Grade 1/2!
We have had a terrific start to the school year in Grade 1/2! It has been wonderful getting to know each other and building a positive and engaging learning environment.
In reading, we have been focusing on comprehension strategies, phonics through Mesmer activities and developing our independent reading stamina. Students are loving their conferencing time, where they set goals and discuss their reading progress.
During writing time, we have been working on developing strong sentences with correct punctuation. We have focused on recount writing and explored verbs and adjectives to make our sentences more interesting.
In maths, we are enjoying hands-on materials to support our learning. We have worked on place value and addition skills and Blitz Master has been a hit, with students eager to progress through the levels! We have also had fun exploring data and how we can collect and represent information.
Our theme work has been all about minibeasts and we have discovered some fascinating facts alongside our F-2 friends. Students loved creating their own 'Who am I?' books and sharing them with each other.
SWPBS has been a focus this term. We have been working towards earning tokens through displaying school values and positive behaviour. One of the highlights each week is shopping at the Toolamba Shop! Some students spend each week, however others are saving their tokens for a big spend later in the year!
Friendology continues to be an important part of our learning this year, helping students develop strategies to navigate friendships and build positive relationships.
To top it all off, we have been training for the school Cross Country and we are looking forward to the event next week!
As you can see, it has been a busy and productive start to the year in Grade 1/2. We are excited to continue our learning in the coming weeks! Check out the lovely photos below of us busy at work!

Laurel Burch Cats - Grade 1/2F and 2P
Students have been working so hard on their cat artworks - inspired by artist Laurel Burch. This week students were given some choice in the art room as to what materials they would like to use to colour the backgrounds of their cats, before adding patterns and shapes next week. They could choose between watercolour paints, oil pastels, textas, pencils or crayons. It was great to see a variety of materials being used. Well done!
Lunchtime activities in ACTION!
Well done to the House captains for organising and running a lunchtime game for students every Wednesday. Yesterday, Lily and Macie organised a game of netball. Everyone that participated had a great time, and it was wonderful to see the older students helping the younger students with the rules of the game. Charlotte also had a go at being the umpire.. Well done everyone! Listen out to see what next Wednesday's activity will be.
