Principal's Report

"I never dreamed about success. I worked for it.”

Estee Lauder, Entrepeneur

Once again, it has been wonderful to have 22% of our students put in an application for leadership roles. This is a positive response to student voice at the college that began in our foundation year.

We are please to announce the first round of student leadership roles.  Congratulations to:

Captains                                            Vice Captains                                      School Council Representatives

Nicola Trachuk                                Bella Margheriti                                   Jordie Davies

Baden Mooney                                Fin Burgess                                            Holly Bowles

We will be finalising all other leadership positions over the course of this week.

We are now seeing the increase in home learning and PBLs (Project Based Learning) across all learning areas.  This requires students to work towards completing the learning tasks in the timelines set.  We would like parents to check with their children and help with their Outlook Calendar and time management.

Intern Principal

We have Matt Vines who is part of the Bastow Unlocking Potential Principal Preparation Program here at the college for a few weeks this term and next term.  Matt has provided a short introduction of himself:

I am incredibly excited to have the opportunity to be a part of your fantastic community and to learn from such an experienced principal. My name is Matthew Vines and I am currently the founding Assistant Principal at the brand new South Melbourne Park Primary School. Prior to this role I held the position of an Education Improvement Leader and supported the professional development of schools across the Bayside Peninsula Area, particularly in the areas of data literacy, formative assessment, and embedding the critical and creative thinking curriculum. I am looking forward to learning all I can about your amazing school.

Math Circle Co-Curricular

We would like to invite students to join a Math Circle. The first session is on March 19th at 3:45. These sessions are run by a parent with an extensive background in maths and physics.  The Math Circle is to enhance mathematics beyond the classroom encouraging creativity. It is a great way for students to develop intuitive thinking skills and learn new types of math. This term the focus will be on geometry.

Math Circle will be held every Tuesday after school and offer students the following:

  • Exploration, practice and in-depth study of mathematics topics
  • Linking concepts to real world applications building on topics from the curriculum
  • Promote critical thinking skills working with mentors, peers, community links and competitions
  • Develop collaboration, leadership and problem-solving skills in maths and STEM based learning areas

Students in Year 7 and 8 are welcome to attend.

Parent Association Inaugural Meeting

We will be holding the meeting on Tuesday March 18th at 6pm in the Resources Centre. All parents/guardians welcome. We will conduct the election of office bearers. All future meetings will be held in accordance with the Constitution.  We look forward to seeing many parents there.
