SPOTLIGHT ON Physical Activity

With a fabulous week of sunshine expected, we hope everyone takes advantage of the outdoors. Here are some suggestions to support some physical activity.

  • Backyard nature obstacle course. Find some logs or sticks, stones or planks of wood. Set up to encourage jumping over as well as side to side and balancing. For those that have pool noodles and hoola hoops, or something similar, lay out the hoops and set up noodles as arches. Hop into the centre of the hoops, crawl through the noodle tunnels or alternate jumping and crawling. At the end of the course have a bucket with small balls or something similar e.g. bean bag and toss until ball enters the bucket two times. Repeat – you may like to use timers to challenge your child and adjust difficulty.
  • Chalk – hopscotch and walk the line movement game. You can use the traditional hopscotch with numbers and a small object to toss or alternatively use shapes to hop or jump through the spaces to retrieve the object. Make straight, zig zag or curved lines with chalk. Your child can run, skip, hop or jump following the lines.
  • Nature walk – whilst going on a walk try to notice all the changes in the environment e.g. blossoms appearing, lawn mower, bird sounds – perfect for Spring approaching and this can be done daily.

Kindergarten:

It has been a vastly different week for everyone at Kinder, but we are glad that everyone is safe and that we were still able to check in with children via zoom.

It was a week of celebrating literacy and learning:

Our book week celebrations were amazing, the zoom sessions we had on Wednesday saw children dress up as racing drivers, fairies, doctors, pirates and many more characters! The strength of our partnership and connection to our primary school afforded opportunities that most other Kindergartens do not have available to them- joining stories with the class teachers, a session with Heath McKenzie, author and illustrator and MPRPSK community member and then ending the week with a WONDERFUL disco!!

Our thoughts are with every one of our children and their family's, it looks like it is going to be an amazing week of warm weather, I'm sure we are all grateful for the beautiful sunshine!

Hopefully we will see you on the Zoom sessions on Monday and Tuesday.
