Curriculum

Wow! What a busy week! We had so much fun sharing some of our favourite stories for Book Week and absolutely loved seeing students dress up as their favourite book character. Thank you families for your support throughout the week with extra Story Time Zooms and organising a dress up on Wednesday. We have enjoyed running additional opportunities for students to connect with their teacher and peers to support their wellbeing.

We were incredibly lucky to have a special guest join us on Friday. I think the Foundation and Kinder students would agree that it was pretty awesome having Heath McKenzie read The Wildest Book Week Ever! He even answered some of our pressing questions like how did he become an illustrator. Thank you to Heath and thank you to everyone who joined us.

In Literacy, the focus this week has been writing Imaginative Recounts. Students used their character strength of creativity to write an imaginative recount about when they looked inside their fridge. Some of the responses we received were very entertaining!

Students also had the opportunity to draw their own imaginary pet dragon and write about an adventure that they could have together! It has been fantastic to see students working on their writing goals.

In Mathematics, we focused on shapes. Students were given opportunities to refresh their memory on 2D Shapes like circles, triangles, squares and rectangles before exploring a variety of 3D Shapes. It was fantastic to see students find cylinders, spheres, cubes and cones in their house and begin using key words to describe those objects. At the end of the week, students worked on strengthening their fine motor skills by using playdough, Lego and toothpicks to make different shapes!

I don’t think there is a much better way to end the week than with a disco! Thanks Disco Daisy for bringing awesome disco lights and dancing tunes. We were amazed by all of the glittery outfits and crazy cool dance moves!

This week we will be conducting reading assessments with each student. You will have received an email from your child's teacher with their day and time. The assessments will be held on Google Meet. It is important to note that these assessments will be used to provide targeted teaching and learning for all students. Therefore, we ask that parents and carers do not support their children in reading the book or answering questions posed by the teachers.

We look forward to another wonderful week,

Miss Dawson, Miss Tossell and Miss Henwood
