Message from Aoife

Acting Principal – St John's Footscray

As Term 3 draws to a close we are thankful, as always, for our St John’s community. Thankful for educators and co-educators who are flexible, resilient and committed to doing their best throughout a challenging time. Thankful for our children, who ask questions, share ideas and enter into online learning with bravery. Thankful too for our families who are navigating home/school/work life, we know it isn’t easy, we think you’re doing an amazing job.

As a school community we are also thankful for the gift that Gemma has been to St John’s. Gem, it’s difficult to capture in words the ways in which you have influenced our community over the past six years. Your energy, passion, openness to new ways of thinking, teaching and being have inspired our community to dream, imagine and discover. We know that St John’s will continue to thrive, but we will miss your humour, your kindness and your zest for learning and teaching. May God bless you as you embark on your new adventure, your new schools are lucky to have you, as we have been.

We will farewell Gemma with a special video tomorrow, Friday 10th September at 9:10am. You are warmly invited to join your child's greeting during this time to be part of our community farewell.

End of Term 3 - 1pm finish

Our last day of each term traditionally includes a Sports Day, and this one is no exception! We will have a morning greeting for each hub, followed by Sports activities to take part in. Our day will conclude with an online Prayer Gathering at 12:30pm, followed by an opportunity for children to chat to their educators before breaking for the holidays. Our Prayer Gathering will focus on Hope, if you are available please join us in celebration, the code will be shared on our Gathering Places.

Term 4

We will update families as soon as any information is made available in relation to COVID restrictions for Term 4 learning.

Enjoy a relaxing break together, it is very much deserved!

Message from Gemma

How very bizarre leaving like this. I wish we were standing around our farm fire pit, I wish we could hug and say goodbye in the 'normal' way.  It's not to be.

I can not thank you all enough, no words will do it justice.

I'll give it a go anyway.

Thank you for your years of trust, love, care and support. Thank you for entrusting us and giving us the privilege to be part of your educational story.

We dreamt of a school and place that was focused around children, I believe we have achieved that whilst continuing strong growth in learning outcomes. I have loved being a small part of your lives and you will always be part of mine.

Thank you to our staff, our leadership team and our educators who continue to amaze me. Everything you do is focused around our horizon and our children's needs. You have taught me so much especially to constantly reflect. Your practice is second to none. Your joy and love is inspiring. I will carry this with me always.

'The wider the range of possibilities we offer children, the more intense will be their motivations.' Loris Maliguzzi

To Fr Rene and Fr Gerald and our wider parish - thank you for your continual trust in our ways of being and our focus on learning through experiences. Your gifts to our school community are valued and have made us who we are today.

I look forward to hearing about your new journey and adventures.
