Archdiocese New Vision for Parishes

The Archdiocese of Melbourne is undertaking a restructure of its parishes. In summary, it is aiming to draw a collection of individual parishes into ‘Missions’. They have defined a Mission as: “… a family of communities (parishes) working together for viability and vitality”. It is expected that each Mission will share resources, personnel, including the priests, and administrative functions. Parishes are asked to speak to surrounding parishes about the possibilities of joining together into a Mission.

Our Parish of Sacred Heart and St Columba have already begun the exploratory process with Fr John and our pastoral associate, Christine attending meetings called by the Archdiocese; our Parish council (PLDT) and our ‘think tank’ group, known as the Parish Discernment Group have viewed material from the Archdiocese and held further discussions. We also set and reset meetings for parishioners to gather for discussion. However, lockdown have led to these being cancelled. Therefore, in the interim, we have decided to hold a zoom meeting inviting parishioners and school families to an online ‘Q & A’ session. We also plan to have face-to-face discussions once lockdown allows for this. If you would like to join us, please visit our website and register under ‘events’ and you will be sent the zoom link.

Zoom Meeting: Parish Q & A Meeting

Date: Thursday, 19 August

Time: 7.30 p.m.

If you would like to see the information already provided by the Archdiocese, please visit their website: melbournecatholic.org and click on “Take the Way of the Gospel”.

Christine has also put together a summary on their vision and if you would like a copy, email her on: christine@shscparish.org.au
