PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

MS MICHELLE HAEUSLER - PRINCIPAL

8th August is the Feast Day of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop.  As it falls on a Sunday this year we had scheduled our Feast Day Mass on the 3rd August.  Unfortunately, with the current COVID restrictions for schools we were unable to gather as a whole school community for Mass.  Thanks to Alison Wright, Director of Mission, a liturgy was organised so that homerooms could gather and as a school we celebrated this special event at the same time.

The Sisters of St Joseph are amazing women, who continue to live by the charism and values that St Mary MacKillop instilled in them.  Throughout this pandemic the Sisters have continued to work hard to meet the needs of the homeless, abused, addicted and those that live in poverty.  The Sisters continue to work in countries that have been severely affected by COVID, including Peru, Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Timor-Leste.  They continue to live by the mantra of “Never see a need without doing something about it”.  It is a statement we should all try to live by.

Well done to all of the staff and students that participated in the House Challenge last Friday.  It was wonderful to see and hear our students enjoying each other's company with some friendly competition.

School Production

Due to the rescheduling of the VCAA Year 11 and 12 GAT to 12th August and restrictions around distances between performers, we have rescheduled the School Production of ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ to Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th September.  Matinee and evening performances will be available to a restricted number of audience members.

If you have already purchased tickets, please contact the Front Office to confirm the performance you will attend.  We will try as much as possible to re-allocate you to the same seats.  If you have not purchased tickets yet, don’t leave it too long, you will not want to miss out.

Grade 6 Transition Day

The new date for our second transition day for the Grade 6 students that have submitted an enrolment application is Tuesday 14th September.  It will be wonderful to have the Grade 6 students at our school, gaining more valuable experience to help prepare them for Secondary school.  Enrolment interviews will occur as soon as restrictions allow.

Thank you to the staff, students and families for your continued support and flexibility as we move in and out of lockdowns.  Hopefully we have seen the last of them, however we know that we are ready for this challenge whenever it presents itself.

Hopefully you have had a good fix of sport with the Olympic coverage at the moment.  What amazing things can be achieved through motivation and perseverance.  I have also been very impressed by how humble and encouraging of each other many of the athletes are.
