Congratulations Tapuitea Li-Rina Passi
Hello my name is Tapuitea Li-Rina Passi but you can call me Li-Rina. I am a Year 7 student in St Rose (of Lima) . I have been selected to represent Victoria in the white U14 state volleyball girls team and go to Bendigo to verse the States around Australia and this is my story. I started playing volleyball at the end of 2020 and am currently training in an academy called Serva (which stands for South East Region Volleyball Academy) at Westall secondary college in Clayton South .
In Serva, the coaches and players are very kind. I also made some friends and some of them are with me in the U14 white state volleyball girls team, while some are in the blue U14 State volleyball girls team. I started trying out for the U15 girls volleyball state team to see how the tryouts were in Australia because it was my first time. Unfortunately, I didn't get in but that didn’t stop me from playing Volleyball. I have continued playing volleyball and will wait until the day comes where I do make it into the State team.
In May, Volleyball Victoria said that there was an U14 Boys and Girls tryout for State team squad selections. My mother took me to trial on Sunday the 16th of May 2021. For me it was kind of cool because I get to try out in my age group and I also get to see my friends from Serva and see impressive skilled girls playing.
After that day my mother checked who got in the State team squad selections while I was in the lounge room watching television with my two sisters. She told me to come, and saw that I made into the State team squad selections and it was the beginning of my adventure to get into the State team. Later I started to go to State team squad selections training every Sunday.
In July after my last training on Sunday the Coaches said that they will announce the white and blue team on the Volleyball Victoria website. They announced it on Tuesday and my mother printed out the sheet and I saw that I had made it into the U14 white girls volleyball team. I was so happy that I nearly started crying (a little).
Volleyball Victoria said that if there is no lockdown in September we can all go to Bendigo with our families and visit the states around Australia on September 25 - September 30 (only if there is no lockdown). And the reason why I’m playing volleyball is because I’ve been inspired by the game and the process. I have some family members who play volleyball, my mother, my father, my uncles and my mother.
