2021 SCIENCE WEEK – FOOD, DIFFERENT BY DESIGN

This year, the National Science Week falls on 14 – 22 August. The school theme for Science Week this year is ‘Food: Different By Design’in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the United Nations’ proclamation of 2021 being the International Year of Creative Economy for Sustainable Development. With this theme in mind, we put in place a few events and activities throughout this week that aim to educate and inspire students on a range of food solutions:

  1. Daily “FOOD” article – Students will be emailed an interesting short article related to this year’s Science Week theme every day during the week from 16th to 20th Aug.
  2. Girls out in STEM bake off! – Students in Year 7 and 8 are invited to take up this great STEM challenge that combines machine learning and cake recipes for an exciting bake off. More information can be found in Careers with STEM website. Students must sign up before Science Week to get organised. All those registered will be in the draw to win prizes!
  3. SCINEMA International Science Films Festival – Students are invited to view these films in the library every lunchtime during the week. The playlist will be emailed at a closer date so you can request viewing of your favourite films and vote for a chance to win a $500 JB HiFi voucher!
  4. Education Perfect Science Championship – Open from 16th to 23rd August. Students with current Language Perfect accounts are encouraged to participate for free!
  5. Professor Bunsen Show – “Prof Bunsen” will be entertaining all Year 7 & 8 students with his fabulous live science show on Tue 17th August, Periods 5&6 in the Kennedy Hall.
  6. Escape Room challenge – This is a fun, immersive, hands-on team event open to all students. To solve a series of challenges, students will need to draw on their scientific knowledge from a range of different disciplines. Date and time will be confirmed closer to the week!

So, are you ready? Let’s get excited for Science Week!
