From the Principal

Dear families of Killester,

Our Gospel this week comes from John:

At this, because he said: “I am the bread that has come down from heaven”, the Jews started to murmur in protest: “Isn’t this Jesus, the son of Joseph? Don’t we know his father and mother? How can he claim to have come down from heaven?”…”Stop your complaining” Jesus said to them. “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them…Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died: this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat and not die.”                               John 6, 41-51

Our Gospel this week has much we can discern, I believe that for us at a time when we are again struggling with the uncertainty of lockdown, Jesus reminds us that the work of God is among us, that we can draw faith and solace from the mysterious and beautiful ways that God is within each and every person we meet. We sometimes need to work hard to see God in those we encounter but this is part of our mission and remains fundamental to us living a life by the example of Jesus.

Once again the staff and students of Killester have shown themselves to be incredibly resilient and agile as we moved very quickly to online classes on Friday. The pace at which changes are occurring can at times be overwhelming, I would like to take this opportunity to encourage each member of our community to make contact with the College is there is anything we can do to clarify uncertainty, answer queries or provide assistance.

The fate of the College production remains unknown however it was with great delight I joined the online rehearsal on Sunday morning. It fills me with enormous pride and gratitude when I witness the enthusiasm and participation of the entire Production team- staff and students alike.

We have yet to receive notification from VCAA about the plans for the GAT which was scheduled to be held this coming Thursday. Once we have received advice we will make sure to communicate this immediately to students and families.

For those who have not yet had an opportunity to view our new online tour I encourage you to do so; not only does the tour highlight the variety of experiences available to potential families, it also showcases the pride with which our students speak of their community. The link to the tour can be found here and is on our College website.

My prayers, as always, are with everyone who is being impacted by the pandemic that remains such a challenge for our local and global communities. Everyone at the College remains hopeful that we will be together again on Friday, we will make sure we will continue to communicate further about a return to face to face learning and I ask that all families keep a close eye on their emails for any relevant communication,

Yours sincerely,

Sally Buick
