Acting Assistant Principal

Wow! The last few weeks have been filled with many exciting events for our students. A highlight was the school production of Peter Pan which involved learning dance moves and performing a song with their classmates. The Principal Cast members studied hard to learn their lines and performed with tremendous confidence. It was a great example of the whole school community coming together to perform six wonderful productions over two weeks. Well done and thank you to everyone involved who made this production such a success!

Moon Festival

Last Friday, we celebrated the Chinese/Vietnamese Moon Festival and invited students to participate in activities such as, lantern making, storytelling and a whole school picnic. The hall was decorated with lanterns for last Friday’s assembly and it looked superb!

A selection of students spoke on stage to the school community about the origins of the Moon Festival and sang songs in their native language. Thank you to the parent volunteers who ensured this celebration ran so smoothly.

In the classrooms

Last week I visited a few classrooms to see what the students were getting up to. It was great to see so many engaging activities happening and of course lots of learning too!

I saw Year 1 students performing a play in their Japanese lesson and practising the vocabulary they had learnt. I was also lucky enough to be present for the Year 4 Garden presentations where students tried to persuade their audience as to why we need additional gardens at Kingswood.

Lastly, I was present in the kitchen where the Year 3 students were making Vietnamese rice paper rolls. This was timely as I am off to Vietnam for the holidays and I will try to find some rice paper rolls that can match the delicious ones our Year 3s made!

Forgotten Lunches

Over the last few weeks the canteen has noticed a rise in the numbers of students who are coming to school without their packed lunch from home. The school is able to provide sandwiches in these rare situations but this service is currently being used too frequently. One way of ensuring this does not occur is by teaching your child how to pack their own lunch. This will ensure they always come to school with food for the day, and at the same time  improving their independence.

Congratulations Nerys

I would like to congratulate Nerys (6W) who has been selected into the Australian dragon boat squad. She will now begin her training and preparation for the World Championships in 2019.

Well done Nerys!!

Footy Day

On the last day of term we held our annual Footy Day. Students dressed in their favourite team’s colours and many dressed as their favourite player! Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students took part in a footy parade and all students participated in some fun footy activities on the oval.

Classroom activities were all based around footy and lunchtime saw the Year 6 students play a fun match against the teachers.

What a great end to the term all we had!

Make a Difference Dingley Village

We are currently supporting families through Make a Difference Dingley Village by collecting and distributing long life milk to those who are struggling in our community.  If you would like to support this drive, please place a long life milk into the basket located at the office.  Kingswood families have demonstrated their generous nature over the past few years and are recognised for their support of Make a Difference Dingley Village.  I encourage any family who is in a position to help this important cause to join in.

Looking Ahead

Next term we have many more exciting events happening, including a Year 4 Camp to Phillip Island, a Year 3 Camp to Taskworks and a Year 2 Sleepover in the school hall!

There will also be softball playoffs, and as the weather warms up our Prep and Year 1 students will participate in swimming lessons and 5/6’s will take part in a water safety day at the beach. We will also be hosting a combined Art Show & Book Fair on the 19th – 20th October which will showcase our student’s artwork.

The 2019 Prep transition program will begin next term and we look forward to meeting and welcoming new families to the Kingswood Community.

Two teams of students from Year 5 and 6, KPS Lightning and Thunder, have been training all year and will finally get to participate in the HPV Energy Breakthrough event in Maryborough in November.

Whether you are staying local or travelling away, I wish everyone a safe and fun holiday. I am looking forward to seeing everyone coming back refreshed for a terrific Term 4.
