Engaging with our faith

At the conclusion of a very successful and enjoyable John XXIII Day, twenty of our students returned to the College to join in the celebrations of ‘Veritas’, an event we hosted as a pre-cursor to the Australia Catholic Youth Festival (ACYF) being held in Perth in December. More than 700 young people from around the state attended an evening of prayer, reflection, music and dance.  We are always looking at new ways of engaging young people with the Church and we will seek further opportunities in the future. The ACYF conference is accessible for young people aged 14-30 and we are encouraging the involvement of our students https://youthfestival.catholic.org.au/ Interested students are invited to liaise with our Head of Faith and Mission, Janeen Murphy, who will assist with the registration process.

On the weekend we also farewelled our visiting Fujimi High School students. It was the 21st visit from the Japanese school and we are delighted to have had such a long and fruitful association. We are also very appreciative of all the support offered by our host families in providing a wonderful cultural experience for our visitors and our students and the superb coordination of Ms Shane Glass and other staff.

The weekend also included a Year 7 Magis Camp at Point Walter featuring excellent presentations from Lorian Marshall (Year 11) and Alice O’Sullivan (Year 9) and a Talent Show run by Daniel Doran (Year 8). Many of our students are also currently participating in the annual Catholic Performing Arts’ Festival.

Next week we look forward to the Year 4 Production and a Jazz Performance at the Ellington.

Congratulations to our Rowers on being named ‘All Schools Champions’ on the weekend. It was also an opportunity to farewell Mr Rob Thomas and wish Mr Jerram Gibson well in the Rowing Coordinator role. The growth in our rowing program over the past two years has been exceptional. Venturing onto the oval before school this week, I witnessed lots of enthusiastic Primary and Secondary students training for upcoming carnivals. It is a busy place and it is brilliant to see so many students positively engaged in their schooling programs.

We will be celebrating Father’s Day with Mass in our Chapel followed by tea/coffee on Friday 30 August at 7:30am.  All are welcome to attend - please RSVP via this link https://www.trybooking.com/523873
