The prep students have learnt the materials song and can now identify what materials an object is made of. They have learnt to sort materials and test them to see if they are waterproof.

The grade 1/2’s have loved learning about mixtures. They made predictions about which liquids will mix and which ones will not during the oil and water experiment.

The grade 3/4 are exploring heat this term. They have tested the effect warm water has on the spread of food dye via convection and are currently planning an investigation about melting chocolate.

The grade 5/6’s have been learning about density and chemical reactions. They recently made a lava lamp and slime using cornflour and conditioner. The students made predictions, learnt to use lab equipment like pipettes and test tubes and had a blast watching the reactions.

On Thursday 13th June the ResourceSmart Schools Sustainability Awards Ceremony was held at the MCG. We are proud to announce that Truganina South Primary School won both awards we were nominated for – Student Action Team of the Year (the Green Team) and Teacher of the Year (our Science teacher Vanessa Smith). Four students accompanied Vanessa to the MCG and got to showcase our achievements and meet important people like the Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D’Ambrosio, our local Labor MP for Tarneit Sarah Connolly and the ABC’s host of War On Waste, Craig Reucassel. It was a fantastic day and we would like to thank all staff, students and families who have contributed to the success of the sustainability program.
