Nazareth Day Mass

Nazareth Day Activities

McAuley had a bretzel and a waffle stall. It was great fun to see students line up for the waffles. Ms Bryon, Mr Holten and I went around the school selling bretzels in the biting cold :)

Mrs Formanek, Mr Seel and and Mrs Singh got right into making waffles with all the enthusiasm of teenagers. :) - Ms Gurm

It was great to see the Mannix 3 students who have never cooked having a go at making pancakes. What we learned was that they all tasted great. - Mr Peter Nathan

Knox 4 liked the hot dogs, open spaces to walk around in, Virtual Reality, Lolly Jar guessing, FIFA gaming, and ice cream.

The activity McCormack 4 decided to bring to the table for Nazareth Day was Mario Kart Wii. This took place in C1-5 and was generously set up by our lovely tech team at Nazareth. It became quite apparent from the very beginning that our activity was wildly successful with the constant swarm of our school mates that began to enter and take on each other in a fun (but competitive) game of Mario Kart.

The part I found particularly hilarious was observing peoples faces, and then quickly noticing just how competitive everyone is, even if they did not know a thing about playing! As for the rest of the activities on the day, I myself can't say much about them, as my friends and I decided to simply purchase food and sit down and enjoy being with each other without having to worry about school work.

However, it was wonderful to witness the level of participation throughout the whole school in a range of activities such as African Drumming and Virtual Reality. Overall, I believe the day was a huge success and cannot wait until Nazareth day next year! - Isabelle Refalo, Year 10

On Nazareth Day, McCormack 4 hosted a Wii games activity in the Mannix area that allowed students to play and compete against each other in a number of games. There was an excellent turnout as many came to play and seemed to have enjoyed themselves while doing so. Mario Kart was the most popular game as many kids loved racing against their friends and earning a chocolate if they won.

There were also various creative activities by other homerooms that were enjoyable, such as; ‘hungry hippos’ and ‘soccer penalties’ as well as many food stalls.

All in all, lots of money was raised for charities and it was a successful and fun day for everyone. - Anja Vukosavljevic, Year 12

I loved the talent quest for Nazareth Day as I got to be a student representative judge which was something different. I didn’t like the fact that there were barely any food trucks that you could have a decent lunch. You can’t eat popcorn and lollies all day. I also liked the Father we had for mass, as he was interesting and provided us with some key lessons we could take out of it. - Kristian Sekulovski, Year 12

Nazareth Day Talent Quest

Naz has most DEFINITELY got talent!

One of the many great Nazareth College traditions is the Talent Quest held on Nazareth Day each year. I had the privilege this year of swapping my Assistant Principal's badge for the higher calling of Talent Quest judge, along with fellow judging panel members Ms Tracey Burnett, Ms Merryn Molloy and Year 12 College Captin Kristian Sekulovski. This turned out to be a far more entertaining and difficult task than any of us imagined.  Why difficult? Simply, the level of talent on display was truly inspiring.

We were treated to a variety of contemporary, jazz and classical musical acts, along with a number of skilled dancers (along with attempting to inject comedy through our comments in-between, to varying degrees of success, judging from the audience chuckles and groans). In the final tallying of judges votes, only one vote separated each of first, second and third places.

First Place - Michael Nicolaou (Year 7).  Michael astounding us with his variety, skill and dexterity on the grand piano with a wide-ranging medley, becoming the youngest known winner of the Talent Quest.

Second Place - Joshua & Olivia Quintrell (Year 12 & Year 10). A beautifully powerful 'unplugged' rendition of Beyoncé's 'Halo' from this gifted brother & sister duo.

Third Place - Jacinta Ashby (Year 12).  Another amazing and emotive vocal performance from someone we will miss dearly from the Nazareth stage.  Jacinta engaged the audience with her rendition of Adele's 'Someone Like You'.

Honourable mentions were made to: dancers Rita Okwang and Ashleigh Arcigal - the latter having to deal with an unannounced dancing partner; Anna Zupo, for her beautiful original composition; the backstage and sound crews for their awesome work; and to perennial crowd favourites F1-7, who managed a rousing reception even before taking the stage then backed it up with their Jack Black-inspired stagecraft!

Congrats to our youngest Talent Quest winner, Michael Nicolaou!
