Principal's Report

Dear Families and Friends of Nazareth College
Nazareth Day
Last week we celebrated Nazareth Day. This is when our students and staff begin the day with Mass. Father John Sherman OMI led the celebration and challenged us to be very Christ-focused and to serve others the way Jesus did.
It is our hope that all Nazareth students are able to answer one basic question – What do I do for others? By helping others one is able to get a sense of humility and how others live. One tends to appreciate what one has and the good deeds of others.
Father John’s homily addressed the topic of interviewing students and asking them to explain the difference between ‘receiving’ and ‘giving’. He spoke about the time when he, as a Principal, interviewed a young student. The student was unable to tell him what he had done to help others. There was a long silent period and his parents felt really uncomfortable because of his non-response. The point of the experience was to ensure that the young boy realised that, in order to be a good person, one needs to be considerate of others and be prepared to put oneself ‘out’.
This message was evident throughout the day with all proceeds from the day going to the Australian drought-affected farmers as well as Caritas Australia.
Each of the six Nazareth Houses ran fundraising activities. These not only provided entertainment but funds for the charities.
In the late afternoon, we celebrated together with our annual Talent Quest. Thirteen (13) acts, together with an African drummer, entertained us all. The most pleasing part of the afternoon was to see each of the competitors as well as the backstage crew, with the sound and lighting students, all showcasing their talents.
Nazareth Day was truly a wonderful celebration enjoyed by all.
SIS Athletics
I take this opportunity to congratulate the Nazareth SIS Athletics Squad. This year, the participants were all well trained and registered in many events. The College came fourth overall, however, it was a tremendous effort by all the participants.
I thank all our staff who helped ensure the success of this day, namely:
John Brenton
Adam Ferraro
Amy Kane
Jackie Kol
Brendan McAleer
Emily Morris
Emilia Roberts
Chris Seel
Kate Shea
and the students for representing Nazareth College commendably.
Farewell to Rob Malone
I take this opportunity to thank Mr Rob Malone, the College Business Manager, most sincerely for his part five (5) years of service. On Friday 21 September, Mr Malone officially retires from his duties to begin a new life as a ‘retiree’.
I personally thank Mr Malone for all his work in overseeing Nazareth College’s finances and day-to-day running of the College Administration, ICT and Maintenance. Mr Malone will be very much missed.
Welcome to Mr Lee Perry
On Monday 17 September 2018 we welcome Mr Lee Perry, the new Business Manager of Nazareth College. Lee will take over Mr Rob Malone’s duties and begin a new era in managing Nazareth’s finances.
Mr Perry has extensive experience in a range of companies which include both the corporate and educational sectors. His roles have all been at a senior level. He comes to us from Kingswood College where he has been the Business Manager for eight (8) years.
With a Degree in Business with a major in Accounting, Mr Perry also has a Graduate Diploma in Applied Corporate Governance from CSA, as well as being a CPA.
I hope you have a wonderful week ahead.
God Bless
Mr Sam Cosentino
