NAPLAN

Parents of students in Year 7 and 9 will have received their child's NAPLAN report via their student's Mentor Group. We would recommend that families take the opportunity to read through this report. The data obtained from NAPLAN provides the college with an important snapshot concerning student achievement and areas for future focus for the college. They do not indicate the total capacity, ability and potential of individual students. Should families like to discuss their child's report, please contact the college office to make an appointment with the appropriate Leader of Student Care.

Continuing from last newsletter we acknowledge the efforts of our Year 7 students and the level of growth they have obtained in their 2019 assessments. The average growth of students in Year 7 in the domains of Reading, Writing, Spelling, and Grammar and Punctuation was higher than the average growth of students in NSW. Our Year 7 students are also performing in Reading and Numeracy, on average, at levels higher than students in schools statistically similar to McCarthy.

Our Year 9 students Writing data was particularly exciting. Our average score is 18 scaled score marks higher than statistically similar schools and higher than students across the state. This trend in data is also reflected in the student performance in Reading and Spelling.

Mrs Briony Martin - Leader of Pedagogy

Mrs Barrett last week sent a very important email with regards to school deadlines for UAC, ENE, SCU, SRS and other early entry applications. While some of these 'officially' close in the school holiday period, in order for the College panel to have input please adhere to the College deadlines  as per Mrs Barrett's email.
