Chess

On Wednesday 25 September 2019 seven students went to Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School to represent McCarthy Catholic College in a chess challenge.

Over three hours, intense battles raged for the supremacy of the chess board, playing a game which dates back before the time of the crusades. Well done to Dante and Elih who scored the most wins for the College. Overall, the day was a success as all players had a great time and learnt a lot. The games against Farrer also mark a new growth for the College Chess Club, as during Term 4, further games are being planned against other schools.

The ancient game of chess is a battle of the minds which encourages the development of problem solving, spatial and memory skills. The Chess Clubs runs every Friday lunchtime and everyone is invited to take part. New players are welcome, as there is always a staff member present who is happy to teach them the rules.

Well done to all who took part in the games at Farrer.
