Around The Primary

Dear Parents

Today is the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and our PP-Year 2 students celebrated Mass.  Father Rodrigo reminded us all that Jesus loves us and shows us how to love others.  The students participated beautifully in this time of prayer and reflection.  Special thanks to Year 1B and Ms Crowley for preparing this lovely liturgical celebration.

We are heading to the finishing line!  Teachers are now in the final stages of preparing the reports and they will be ready to be released next Friday afternoon (further details below).

Next Friday, 5 July is our annual ‘Comfy Day’ and the whole Primary community is invited to come to school dressed in warm comfy clothes or pyjamas. On this day we hope to raise the students’ awareness of how fortunate we are to have access to everyday privileges.

All students are asked to bring along a gold coin donation for LifeLink or if you have a spare packet of tea bags or extra supply of coffee or Milo in your cupboard these donations would also be greatly appreciated by The Shopfront.

The Shopfront also send their grateful thanks for all the donations of toiletries and blankets or sleeping bags (new or pre-loved) they received this term.

Thank you for your generous support.

Kind regards,

Head of Primary

Dates to Remember

Last day of Term 2

Comfy Day

Good Old Days

On Monday the Year 2 students went on a bus ride to Peninsula Farm to learn all about the past. The students dressed in olden day clothes and explored the farm house which belonged to the Hardey family.

The students learnt about olden day artefacts, created their own windmills and discussed how technology has changed the way we live over time.  The highlight of the day was playing olden day games, such as, quoits, skipping and egg and spoon races!

Elephant Toothpaste

Year 5B concluded their Chemical Science topic with a fantastic “hands on” chemistry lesson in the Secondary Laboratory.

Mr Gazia (Catherine’s Dad) kindly gave up his time to demonstrate the “elephant toothpaste” experiment and to share his amazing knowledge.  The students also had the chance to work collaboratively with their peers to conduct the experiment themselves.

Our time in the lab provided the students with the chance to see the science concepts they have been learning come alive!

Day of Reflection

On Wednesday, Year 4’s had a Eucharistic Retreat with 24.7 Ministry.  We had a really fun day.  We watched a skit which had a message about saying sorry for your sins.  We played fun games such as ‘Get out of the Knot’ where we worked together in teams.  We also played ‘Baptism salad’ where we stood in a large circle and ran through it when one of the four symbols of Baptism was called out by a leader.  Each of us made a hanging vine with words and symbols to take home and remind us about Jesus teachings.  We feel really prepared for the Sacrament of the Eucharist.

Bricksville

In Design and Technology lessons, the Year 4’s have been designing and constructing a futuristic and sustainable city out of LEGO. It was a long process but really fun and interesting.

First, we sketched our designs. Our group designed a multi-level hotel with solar panels and a recycling plant, next we had to sketch it. After that, we had to use a computer program called ‘Lego Digital Designer’ to simulate our designs in 3D. Finally we got to construct our models in our classrooms. We really enjoyed this project and hope we do more activities like this in the future.

Music News

During this week’s Music lessons, the Year 5 students performed concerts for their parents.  These performances showcased their skills they have developed to perform as a Tuned Percussion Ensemble.  Every student performed on either xylophones, glockenspiels or a marimba.

The students have learnt to hold the beaters correctly, bounce the beaters off the bars for resonance, roll the beaters and most importantly, to keep in tempo.  They performed four pieces, each one increasing in difficulty.  The students performed confidently and capably, producing lovely music.  This was well received by the parent audience.  At the end of each concert, many students performed on the instruments for which they have been receiving tutoring.

The Year 5 students can feel proud of their achievements as the concerts were a great success!
