Important information for Year 12 students, Year 11 students completing a 3/4 subject and Parents/Carers

Firstly, I would like to thank all VCE students and their parents/carers for the determination and perseverance they have shown this term. Again the attendance rate and overall engagement of KSC students has been fantastic during this second round of remote learning. I have a number of important announcements and reminders to make for students undertaking a Year 12 program or subject.

Year 12 Subject Revision Packs

Students are reminded that they should pick up hard copy revision materials and practice exams from Room 33 after their English SAC this Friday 18 September. Year 11 and EAL students should pick up these resources on Thursday 17 September from 3:30 to 4:30 pm.

General Achievement Test

One of the resources available for students is a previous VCAA General Achievement Test (GAT) exam. Students must set aside some time to practice this assessment under timed conditions during their September/October break. Attached to this Newsfeed is a PowerPoint outlining information and tips on undertaking the GAT exam. The GAT will be held from 10 am until 1:15 pm at KSC on Wednesday 7 October.

Year 12 On Site Practice Exams

In addition to at home practice exams completed during the September/October break, we will be running formal on site practice exams for all Year 12 subjects from Monday 12 October until Thursday 15 October. Regular Year 12 classes will not run on these days. The Year 12 practice exam timetable will be sent out to all students by the end of this week.

Explaining VCE Assessments

The North-East DET Region is running a free session for Year 12 students on understanding how VCE scores are calculated. The session will run on Thursday from 4 – 5pm. It can be accessed here. https://eduvic.webex.com/eduvic/j.php?MTID=me32d2588a91fe8eda0788652530dc669

VCE Wellbeing Resources

Reinforcing the excellent resources provided by the KSC Wellbeing team is a number of free webinars run by psychologist Michael Carr-Gregg. These are available to VCE student and their families free of charge here https://sites.google.com/education.vic.gov.au/nevr-year12/webinars?authuser=0

Updated information on SACs:

As of the 17/8/2020 the VCAA has advised/instructed that the Stay at Home Directions across Victoria enable:

  • Students leaving their premises and attending school to undertake VCE SACs onsite.
  • School staff to attend onsite for the support and running of VCE SACs.
  • Schools to continue running some SACs remotely.

This means our Year 12 subjects will be conducting some of their remaining SACs onsite at school between Week 7 and Week 10 of Term 3. Students will be clearly informed of an onsite SAC by their subject teacher and will attend school for these assessments at the specified date and time. Students should attend school no earlier than 15 minutes before their scheduled SAC and leave immediately afterward.  All onsite SACs will comply with the VCAA Specific Additional Health Controls for Essential Assessments for VCE and VCAL policy. This means that students will:

  • have their temperature checked before entering school buildings
  • sit their onsite SACs in either the Hall, Middle Years Centre, or Senior Centre which will be set up with desks spaced so there is no more than 1 person per 4 square meters
  • wear face masks
  • sit in a Seating Plan

These SAC spaces will be cleaned and disinfected before and after all assessments take place.

Year 12 exams

The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) has released the 2020 exam timetable for all Year 12 exams. Students and parents/carers should carefully read through the timetable available here at the VCAA website.

 https://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/administration/Key-dates/Pages/VCE-exam-timetable.aspx

The VCAA has also announced that students will receive their Year 12 results on Wednesday 30 December this year. First round university offers through VTAC will be made to students on Thursday 14 January.
