Music

F/1

I have been very impressed to hear so many family members singing along to the songs posted for the Prep and Year 1 students. Edna the Elephant seems to have been a clear favourite – have a look at some of the responses to this in the video below:

The Concert songs will be allocated to their specialist groups rather than home groups, so that we can rehearse them more effectively when face-to-face Music classes resume. Over the past few weeks the Showtimes for each lesson have alternated between a video upload and a reflection (usually a drawing) in order to lighten the load for families – but please make sure the children spend time rehearsing their songs each week!

2/3

The three songs that 2/3s are rehearsing are on track to be part of an energetic and cracking performance! The emphasis this part of the term is on memorising the lyrics to their song, as well as being able to do the choreographed moves and sing at the same time. Over the next few weeks I will be incorporating more memorisation “tricks” into the main tasks as well as the warmups – remember, this is a skill that has to be learned and practised! I have been delighted to watch the uploads from the children showing their progress on the dance moves. Keep up the practice, and remember to keep your movements BIG and use your singing voice!

4/5/6

How do you practise instrumental skills through virtual learning? Well, as the 4/5/6 students have proven over the last few weeks, there is no obstacle if you are creative and improvise with whatever you have at home! In the last newsletter, we showcased the homemade drum kits that students had created. They also used this in the activity the following week, using the drum-heavy song “Run Boy Run”. Last week we extended the concept to practising keyboard skills. No keyboard? No problem! When students worked on the (repeated) pattern from the song “Black and Gold” they were given a few options and shown how to do this. Some chose to use a stringed instrument (ukulele, guitar or bass guitar) and others actually used the keyboard I put on the screen or drew their own! Watch our clever students responding to the challenge in the video below:
