Grade 2/3

Assessment

Well done to every one during week one of our assessment period. Students did a great job on the Cold Write considering it was completed in a very different way. Assessments will continue next week so please check your child's Microsoft Teams calendar to familiarise yourself with dates and times. We thank you for supporting us and your children during this time. Just a reminder that morning check ins will run from 9:00am - 9:10am Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for next week. Specialists will continue to run as normal. For the last week of school, morning and afternoon check ins will run as normal.

Inquiry

This inquiry has seen us explore the world and all of its parts. We have looked at Australia, Neighbouring Countries. We have gone on a trip to Italy, India and Mexico where we have learned the culture, celebrations and food. It has been great to see families creating dishes that relate to the country.

To bring our inquiry to an end students have begun to create their own country. This week we have designed the shape and size of the country, given it a name and location. We have also created a climate, landscape and animals. To end the week students decided on a language, currency and history for their country. All of this information was then turned into a poster.

Next week it will only be one inquiry task sent out via Seesaw. This will be sent out on Monday 7th September and the students will have the whole week to complete this activity. Students will upload their work with a response with the finished product. It will be a checklist for students to confirm that their work is ready to be submit.

The task involves creating a model of something that resembles their made-up country. It can be a part of the country’s landscape through a diorama or the country in whole. Some ideas might using a cardboard with the shape of the country and use recycling materials, Lego, clay, play-dough… to create the model.

There will be details provided in the Seesaw activity but it might good to start planning. We would like the students to drive the conversation and get their creativity all out!

Mathematics

It has been great to see students taking advantage of home resources to create their own scales this week. We have seen some very innovative creations.  This week we were able to use these scales to estimate and predict the mass of a range of materials and place our findings into a table. Students collected many different materials that could be scooped into a measuring cup and compared the mass of each. We investigated the question: Do cupfuls of different materials always have the same mass?

SRC update

The SRC have been working to organise an end of term celebration in the form of a Seesaw activity. They have come up with a range of fun activities for students to work through at their own choice. They can complete as many of the tasks as they would like. Some of the activities may require basic materials. The activity will be sent out on the last week of school, Monday 14th September. It will be available for the whole week for students to work through if and when they would like. Click add response to upload photos or videos of any of the tasks you choose to complete and remember it is all about having fun!
