Behind the Scenes

Behind the scenes this fortnight, students in Art & Technology have been busying themselves with research and planning for many art, design, and performance pieces.

Planning has begun for a performance by Year 8 and 9 Drama students for the upcoming Whole School Assembly and for opportunities for the Secondary Sandhurst Arts on Show to be held in August.

In Visual Communication Design, Year 12 students are moving through a challenging but exciting Area Of Study One.  This area of study is based on the theme ‘Revive or Revamp The old Echuca Pontoon’. Dean Oberin, a local identity and father of Cleo, met with students to share tales of the past when the Echuca pontoon was a mecca for local teenagers who loved to swim and socialise.

Students then moved through a design process to imagine the possibilities for a modern-day pontoon design.  The results are clever, unique and consider the spiritual connection Aboriginal and local people have to the river and the broad needs of the Echuca community.  Students also drew inspiration from their study of the Kastrup Seabaths in Copenhagen.

Magic is happening with Year 10 and 11 designers generating ideas for packaging and advertising (Mr Beck’s shoes made an appearance on the pedestals for observation drawings).  Bluetooth speaker designs are also in the pipeline!

In Year 8 Foods, both classes made 'Bahn Mi' which is a traditional Vietnamese dish.  The students practised their knife skills, organisational skills and were also given freedom on the presentation of their dish.

Year 10 Food For Healthy Eating students rose to the 'Risotto Challenge' and made some scrumptious dishes last Tuesday. The students were encouraged to use seasonal vegetables and experiment with flavors, design, and to modify recipes.

Well done to our student artists, designers, culinary experts and performers on a terrific start to the year!  Your work in the planning stages is celebrated!
