Year 9

Congratulations to those who have embraced the many opportunities over the past fortnight. Year 9 students have participated in a variety of activities including 'High School Musical Jr' rehearsals, band and choir practice and various SCSA teams. The level of participation in the House Swimming Carnival by Year 9 students was outstanding and the fever created definitely signified a want to make up for lost time!

Pastoral Program

Last week during the Pastoral Program, students reflected on the role and responsibility they play in creating a flourishing community at Kilbreda College.  Activities were designed to explore Martin Seligman’s, PERMAH model of Positive Education. The five elements of the PERMA wellbeing framework were explored (Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, and Accomplishment), along with the H (Health) that the College has adopted. Our Pastoral Care Program will continue to focus on PERMAH in coming sessions.

Embracing Leadership opportunities

Congratulations to those who have applied for leadership in the areas of Living Justice, Sustainability, Health and Wellbeing, Community Action and Student Representative Council (SRC). Over the coming week, these positions will be finalised. There were numerous excellent applications indicating willingness to act in an area that the students were passionate about and to work with others to increase personal leadership attributes.

Leadership: Student Ambassadors

Six new Student Ambassadors from Year 9 were inducted this week into the Student Ambassador Program. These students were chosen after applying for the role and underwent training to prepare for the Open Evening to be held next week. The Student Ambassador Program is a vehicle for students to develop confidence, improve their communication skills and establish leadership skills.

Student Reflections

When students were asked the following question -  What has been your favourite experience in Year 9 so far this year? Explain why?

My favourite Year 9 experience so far has been making new friends. I was scared at the start and nervous to speak up but once I started a conversation I managed to click with a few girls. I have also found that you will have different friends throughout life. You will have friends in your class, friends that you sit with at snack and lunch, friends outside of school, old and new friends.

Year 9

The House Swimming Carnival has definitely been a highlight of Year 9 so far! The day was one to remember! So much fun and great activities as well as a great day to spend with friends.

Bailee

Year 9

As a new student at Kilbreda my favourite experience has been making so many new friends, I've never felt so widely accepted. It really is such an amazing school and is the best opportunity and I feel extremely lucky to be apart of the college community.

English Enrichment Reflections

When I heard about this opportunity, I immediately applied for it. I have always had a passion for reading and writing, so this seemed like the perfect program for me.

Yesterday, we had our first session, and to say that is was so much fun is an understatement. Everyone there shared my passion and to be able to connect with like-minded peers was amazing. We had many discussions about things we all enjoy and believe in, and it was very exciting to talk about everything from poetry to feminism in literature to our favourite books.

I am really looking forward to all the sessions to come, and all the knowledge we will learn and share together.

Taylah Bell

Year 9

I was interested in the English extension workshop because I saw it as an opportunity to extend my learning and to collaborate with fellow, like-minded peers. The first session was a wonderful experience. It was apparent as soon as the session began that everyone was going to enjoy this amazing opportunity to work and collaborate with peers who share the same interests. It was marvellous to feel the buzz in the room as everyone talked passionately about their favourite book characters and discussed what they would like to explore as a part of this opportunity. It was clear that many of us would like to explore literature and creative writing. I am very much looking forward to all that we are going to learn and achieve in future sessions.
