Staff

As we move into the 2022 year, I would like to welcome the following new staff members who have joined the Kilbreda community.

Greg Binion

Greg joins us as the Canteen Manager, having most recently worked at Log Cabin Camp in Creswick, where he was responsible for catering for students and teachers during their camp stay. Greg has over 30 years’ experience in Hospitality. Greg has shared the following thoughts on 'Why Kilbreda?'

"Log Cabin was my first foray into anything remotely related to education, previously I had been in charge of a large hospitality venue. I found dealing with teachers and students quite rewarding as the appreciation they showed is not found in other areas of hospitality. A smiling face and a big thank you at the kitchen door from a student on their first trip away from home is quite gratifying.

On returning to Melbourne (we had been living in Ballarat for 15 years), I thought I would pursue something related, and I applied for the position at Kilbreda. I was immediately struck by the welcoming nature of the place and its people and its general calmness.

I hope to create a Canteen that is both welcoming and happy where we can feed and hopefully nourish and sustain the girls and their educators through their time at Kilbreda College."

Matilda De Vries

Matilda (Tilly) joins us as the AFL Trainee - Physical Education and Sport. Matilda completed her VCE in 2021 at Star of the Sea. Matilda has spent time working at the Highett RSL in the Bistro and is also currently working at the Glen Eira Amateur Football and Netball Club coaching both the junior football and netball teams.

When asked what she is 'most looking forward to in working at Kilbreda?', Tilly said that, "Being able to support and work with the Physical Education and Sport department and involve myself in extra curricular activities will definitely be a highlight for the year."

Tilly has enjoyed the opportunity to assist in the organisation of events such as the SCSA Triathlon and House Swimming Carnival and has become the domestique of the Kilbreda Cycling Tour Team.

Debra Greaves

Debra joins us as an Academic Tutor, with experience in the areas of English, English Language, Literature and Humanities. Debra most recently worked at Emmaus College where she worked as an VCE English Tutor/Pedagogy Coach.

When asked about 'What inspired her to work in education?', she said, "It is life affirming to watch students develop a connection to others and the world through the exploration of English."

She believes her tutoring position at Kilbreda is a wonderful opportunity to support students to experiment with ideas and writing to create a sense of empowerment as confident, expressive communicators.

Vanessa Swanborough

Vanessa joins us as an Academic Tutor, with experience in the area of Mathematics. Vanessa most recently worked at Flinders Christian Community College as a Senior School Mathematics teacher and previously as a Mathematics teacher and Learning Support Coordinator at Hillcrest Christian College.

She believes that her tutoring position at Kilbreda has provided a wonderful opportunity to do this in a very supportive and positive environment.
