Maths in the 56 Classrooms

Tiny Houses are all the fashion at the moment with TV shows, people realising that they don't need "stuff" and more tiny houses being available. As part of our work on Geometry - looking are area and perimeter the students have been designing their own tiny houses.

Each student had a list of items that must be included in their tiny house - these included a shower or bath, a bathroom sink, toilet, bed, table, chair, closet, desk or side table, couch, counter, microwave, stove, kitchen sink, TV or computer, fridge, front door, 2 windows, lights, picture for the wall and a mirror.

The students had to work out how to fit all these items into their tiny house and make sure that you could open the front door and get to where you wanted to go.

Everyone had to solve problems and make decisions and then put the pieces together to make their own tiny house. The students have been very engaged in this task and have made some amazing houses. Some students also had a go at making furniture to go in their tiny house.

Below are some of the examples of what they have achieved.
