Enhance Street Art

International Women’s Day:

Tuesday, March 8th 2022 was International Women’s Day, and this years theme is Breaking the Bias. #BreakTheBias focuses on creating gender equality for a sustainable future. The annual International Women’s Day is a reminder that we still live in a word where inequality, bias, stereotypes and discrimination affect many people who identify as women. It is however, also a time to celebrate women’s achievements and uphold women in our society as well as recognizing noteworthy role models.

In honor of IWD 2022, our art students decorated the school with murals and chalk art, as well as creating custom International Women’s Day stickers with hand drawn designs and collages of different IWD graphics and symbols.

Stickers designed by:

  • Yesha Apilado
  • Chloe Borny
  • Chandrima Guduru
  • Tilaylah Paltram
  • Josephine Lafaele

Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias

Microscopic Art Excursion!

On 15th February, the Year 11 Studio Arts class had the opportunity to visit Casey Tech School and meld science and technology into their art and product-making experiences with the expert guidance of staff there. Below are some reflections from the students themselves.

Microscope Session:

“Some things that we looked at under the microscope (and photographed) were different types of plants, living organisms from pond water and even fibres of our lab coats.” Alistar

“What I Found memorable about this session was finding pattern and inspiration within the cells and spotting the small creatures living in their (pond water) environment.” Lillian

“The things I looked at through the microscope were mainly living creatures and the natural environment…..they had smooth and rough textures and bright floral and pastel colours, curvy lines, multiple shapes such as circles, squares etc.”

- Ciara

Photoshop/GIMP Session:

“Some digital processes that I applied to my microscope image were masking, layering and changing hues. I added masking to add texture to represent ‘trees’…I wanted to make my image look like an aerial view of a river. I used layering…adding colours…and changing opacity. Lastly, changing hues made the colours look more natural.”

- Staxey

“Contrast was strong (in my digital artwork), the background was bluish purple while the creature was a dull yellow colour. Shape was also (important) because of all the circles repeated in the original image.”

- Theo

Maker Space and VR Sessions:

“My experience in the Maker Space was amazing, I did new things I had never done. The Dye Sublimation printer and Heat Press were easy to use.”

- Sabira

“I liked using the VR helmets and exploring the virtual galleries (of our digital artworks)”

- Tanishq

Where to next? Back at HPSC:

“We could use the microscopes in S Block, take a photo down the spy glass then draw from it.”

- Lochie

“Some things learnt on the excursion that can be applied to HPSC studio practice include the use of digital editing on our own photos to further develop artworks. Looking through a microscope to find inspirational images could be (adapted) to going outside and taking photos of nature. These images can be printed and further developed by hand.”

- Aneesah

Homework Club

Dear Parents/Carers,

This year Homework Club is once again running on three afternoons for all HPSC students! There is a change from last year with the Tuesday session in the library moved to Monday afternoon in the library with the remaining two sessions running as last year (Wednesday in E Block and Thursday in the library). The good news is that we have more teachers and Multicultural Aides this year to help students with their homework with the two teacher teams rotating between Mondays and Thursdays. The Wednesday session in E-Block is, of course, run entirely by our award-winning Multicultural Aides!

Please encourage your children to attend at least one Homework Club session per week as it is a great way to study, work with other students, or work with teachers who are willing and able to help.
