Freeman House News

Freeman House Updates

We have passed the halfway point of the term and are excited about our first major house event, the Swimming Carnival. This is a great opportunity for students to complete in formal and fun events, support their peers and show their house colours and pride. We encourage all Freeman students to get involved on the day by wearing red and either entering events or cheering on and supporting those that do. There will be prizes and values nominations given out on the day for those who are showing strong house spirit and the School Value’s of Learning, Respect and Working Together.

Meet the Freeman House Leaders:

Each house st HPSC has 2 School Leaders that work with staff and students to promote House Spirit across the College. In Freeman, we have the great pleasure of working with Ujuilu Cham and Pevid Chheng.

Ujuilu Cham

Hi, my name is Ujuilu and I’m one of your Freeman house captain, it has been an awesome start to the year with fantastic new building and facilities, with exciting clubs and events to happen. Swimming carnival is around the comer I hope to see you there showing off that bright red to build our house spirit.

Pevid Chheng

Hey, I’m Pevid and I’m your Freeman House Captain for 2022, if you don’t know who I am, I am currently in year 12 and I will graduate in 2022. The reason why I decided to become a House Leader was because I wanted to be a role model for others and show them and help them through the path of schooling. The quote I live by is “Success is not final, Failure is not fatal, it is the courage to continue counts” As you know swimming carnival is right around the corner and I expect Freeman house to dominate! Make sure you show your house spirit and come in your house colours on the day.

Freeman Student of the Month!

Hello! My name is Fadak Jabbar and I am a HPSC Peer Support student. I am in year 9, I absolutely love sports, learning all about the human body and how it works and I love taking leadership roles which allow me to meet new people, connect with the community, and help others.

In Peer Support, the leaders make a 75 minute session for year 7's with the aim of helping them strive through high school with confidence and overcome any obstacles that may face them throughout these years and hopefully the rest of their lives. We play games, participate in activities, and lead sessions that strengthen their personal, social, mental and physical skills. I chose to become a leader because, like I said before, I have a passion for connecting with the community, meeting new people, and not taking my skills and knowledge for granted by teaching them to others.

In my free time, I love to cook and could confidently say that my cooking is my favourite type of food. I love to do anything that would get my brain working, and push me to get creative,  go bike riding, do some boxing, or going on a walk.

A person I look up to is an Islamic figure, his name goes back 1400 years – the founder of Islam. Prophet Muhammad is historically known to be the greatest man on earth and after learning all about him, I couldn’t help but agree. No matter how he sounded to others, how others perceived him - he let his voice be heard. By year 630 he unified most of Arabia under a single religion. This also shows that he stood up for the truth no matter what happened. He was said to be kind, forgiving, wise, generous, humble, was the first person to stand up for women rights and black rights, stood against all evil actions which were normalised during his time, and showed leadership by not only successfully building a religion with around 2 billion followers, but being able to teach them his ways and the ways of Islam.

A piece of advice I would give to my peers is that experience only comes through trying, and growth only comes through experience. Before you turn away and give up, always try – it leads to things you never knew it would lead to.

Values Nominations

It was a huge start to the term for values nominations and the nominations keep rolling in. Congratulations to  all the students who have received a values nomination over the last month. As a school we pride ourselves on these Values and really want to reward everyone for their efforts. Over the last month Freeman students have received the following nominations.

  • Respect; 33 student nominations (70 for the year)
  • Learning; 469 student nominations (526 for the year)
  • Working Together; 194 nominations (256 for the year)
  • Leadership; 21 nominations (21 for the year)
  • Community; 11 nominations (11 for the year)

That is a total of 884 nominations for the year and 4,420 points for the house.

A special mention to the following Freeman students as they have the most nominations for their respective categories;

  • Hanna Mae (12H), with 12 Learning nominations.
  • Blessing (7G) with 6 Working Together nominations.

Attendance

As mentioned in our last Newshamper release, attendance is one of the single most important factors in enabling students to achieve their potential in school. Attendance makes a big difference in learning outcomes. A student who attends everyday has more opportunities to learn and is able access to their teachers and support staff more often. Every day counts.

If a day of absence is required, please call the student absence line before the start of the school day or log the absence on Compass. This supports the Freeman Team in identifying where your child is and supports them with working with you as a team to ensure that your child succeeds in their learning goals. Letter’s are also being sent home with students in their mentoring session, if they have had any unexplained absences or lates. This process supports the College in tracking attendance but also so that caregivers are aware of all unexplained absences. We request that caregivers sign these forms and return to the College so that we can record these absences with supporting reasons.

Well done to the 86 Freeman House students who have attended achieved 100% attendance and well done to the students who have been working hard to improve their attendance at school.
