Walton House Updates

Dear Parents, Carers, Family and Students,

Term One is flying! We have had a big term so far, with many exciting things going on at the school. We have our first big school event next week, which is Swimming Sports!

When: Friday 18th of March

Where: Pines Frankston Aquatic Centre

What: Swimming Sports!! Competitive Events

  • Freestyle
  • Backstroke
  • Relays
  • Breaststroke
  • Butterfly

If your student is a little hesitant in the competitive water events there is plenty to be involved in to earn points for your house through our novelty events in and outside of the pool:

  • Noodle and Mat races
  • Water walking relays
  • Water based Tunnel Ball relays
  • Water slide races
  • Giant board games
  • Mindfulness station colouring
  • Chess competition
  • 3 v 3 Basketball championship

This is a house event, meaning that any wins will result in house points! So please show your house pride and wear something YELLOW or GOLD. Even if it’s a ribbon, coloured zink (for show, still swear SPF50 sunscreen on the day!) or anything else you have that shows Walton Pride!

Reading House Points

If sport isn’t your thing, remember that across the houses we have a reading program. This reading program is to encourage students to read books, fill out a mini review and receive 5 house points!

If a student writes a long review, Mr Shinkfield will post it on compass, and that student will be awarded 50 house points (that’s right, 50!).

If you’re interested in this, please go to the library near the returns, and you’ll find some coloured slips. They are in house colours, so grab a yellow one and start reading! Each month we will have staff and student recommendations in the Newshamper.

To kick this off, the book nominations for this month are by Gabrielle Phelan (House Leader) and Georgia Riley (Year 9-10 Student Support Leader for Walton).

Gabrielle Phelan:

My book recommendation is a niche one, The Last Unicorn, by Peter S. Begle.

It is a fantasy novel, about a unicorn who believes that she is the last one in existence. The story follows her journey to find the others…but the journey is a complicated one when a magician changes her form from a unicorn into something else. It’s an easy read, while being quite philosophical, satirical and ultimately melancholic.

Georgia Riley:

(Year 9-10 Student Learning Leader for Walton)

I recommend anything biography written by David Attenborough. His biographies are amazing! If you are interested in environmentalism, you’ll love any of his books! 😊

House Leaders

Each house has two leaders who help with house pride, help advocate for students within the house and liaise with teachers about ideas concerning the house system.  This months Newshamper is going to feature one of Walton’s wonderful Leaders, Mia.

Stay tuned for next month when we will introduce our other superstar house leader!

Ready to Learn Reminders:

Please remember to wear your uniforms with pride. Uniform is an important way to demonstrate our togetherness as a community, and a way to represent our school community. It’s a responsibility of students at HPSC to uphold this standard, and overall we are really impressed with the presentation of uniform so far. Remember to attend classes on time, so that students have the best chance at accessing information and content. Being 10 minutes late 5 times a week means students can be missing an hour of class time over the week. A reminder to students to ensure bags aren’t coming to classes, and that lockers are being used appropriately.

Values Nominations:

Now, to end on a positive! We are so proud of all of the wonderful Walton students who have achieved values nominations. Please keep working hard and earn points for our house! Thanks everyone for a fantastic term so far, here’s to continued excellence and working together!
