News from The Patch Café

Our culinary adventure to Greece has now come to an end. To finish, our Year 4 students enjoyed a second Greek-themed menu making Tzatziki dip, colourful veggie sticks, and flatbreads. Together we discussed what makes up the Greek flavours and the different ways that the flatbreads can be used to enjoy the dip and the veggie sticks. Some students chose to simply use the bread to dip into their dip while others created their own wraps using all of the elements at once. Many of the students loved how quick and easy such a tasty lunch can be prepared and how great this would be in their lunchboxes as their recess or lunch at school.

All of these recipes plus many more are now available on The Kingswood Learning Hub.

I wonder where we’re off to next???......

News From The Patch

It has been another wonderful week in the Stephanie Alexander Garden this week. Many classes have experienced the chickens roaming the patch, to give our new hens some time in the chicken coop to settle in. The Prep and Year One students were delighted when the hens decided to roam the school and walk past their classrooms to the junior playground.

The habit of mind Persistence was a common theme in the garden, as lots of digging, pulling, and moving soil has been required. Garden beds have been cleared, rosemary bushes removed and compost bin emptied.

Growing and Harvesting are the first two steps in a successful SAKG. Students have planted edible flowers for the vertical wall, rocket, silverbeet, lettuce, reddish, beetroot, and spinach. We have harvested huge zucchinis, green beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, eggs and a basket full of lettuce.

Sending my thanks to all the students in 5B who worked so hard in the garden near the kitchen area this week. Without your hard work and persistence, the garden wouldn't be looking so fresh, and not all the seedlings would have got planted.

Happy gardening Kingswood!
