Dear parents, carers and staff,

In Our School - We are here for the Students

Last week I had an opportunity to walk through classes in Years 4 and 5, to speak to children about their learning. I was very happy that 100% of children spoke correctly about what they were learning and not about the activity they were doing, as these are two very different things. Our students spoke confidently and with conviction. Well done to all.

I was thrilled that Preps found my missing bear! Children excitedly told me that as a class they followed his paw prints around the school. When they found him, they returned him to my office. I want to share some of my pictures with Bear after he was found.

Next week will see our Year 5 and 6 students engage with our sister school in Nakano, Japan via a zoom meeting. Students will be given the opportunity to practice their Japanese.

Please, no students at school before 8.45am

We ask that parents support our teachers by not allowing children to come to school unsupervised by you before 8.45am. If you need to use our new before school program with TeamKids in the mornings because you need to go to work, then please do so. All feedback that we have received thus far has been very positive. But please respect that teachers are preparing work every morning for our children and it is not their job to supervise your child/ren because they have arrived well before the official start time of 8.45am. Children supervised by parents are more than welcome to come into the school before 8.45am but that is not an invitation to bring your children in and then immediately leave. You must supervise your child/ren until staff are on duty from 8.45am.

Parent Participation - Connected to Community

We are starting to make unfortunate adjustments to programs highly valued by both students and parents alike because we do not have enough, or even any, parents volunteering during these activities. Please refer to my whole school Compass post on this very important issue (hopefully posted before this newsletter is released). Our whole school ethos is based on being connected to community through home and school partnerships, without that everything that we offer your children will fade and die because school staff alone cannot carry the load. We welcome everyone at school, including grandparents., aunties and uncles alike. You are all welcome.

Woody Retirement - Connected to Community

I would like to announce that one of our most long serving staff members will retire at the end of this term. After 22 years of service Woody has decided to hang up his bell and spend his final years in retirement. Woody has given the best years of his life to a couple of generations of Kingswood school children. Woody will move into retirement with a family that absolutely adores him. The love they show to Woody is unparalleled. He is really going to love every minute of his retirement with the Potdar family. Woody’s life story and send off will be shared with the community in a direct Compass post.

Building Works Update - Connected to Community

The tender process finished yesterday and now the bids will be evaluated by the tender team. We hope shortly we will start to see some progress.

Movie Night - Connected to Community

It’s time to build back community. Parents need to be provided opportunities to make connections with other parents. Parents need to feel and be part of the fabric of the school. To support these first steps, Kingswood Primary School will be organising community-based activities throughout the year.

Kingswood Primary School is hosting a free outdoor theatre night on Friday 25th March 2022. Families can start laying out blankets, buy dinner, etc. from 6.00pmOur VIP Lounge will open from 7.00pm and the ‘G’ rated movie will commence at 7.30pm.

We would hope that whilst one parent or companion is looking after their child/ren, the other is mingling with other parents in our first ever Parent VIP ‘lounge’. This is a place for parents to connect with old and new friends. It can’t be missed!

Pizza, sausages (real meat / vegetarian) in bread, drinks and ice creams will be on sale for the community at minimal cost through the kitchen.

Come meet members of our community like the Fathering Project, Parent Association, School Council and School leadership. The kids will have a ball and so will you!
