Support Programs

We now have a number of special support programs up and running to assist a wide range of students.

MYLNS (Middle Years Literacy and Numeracy Support), is a government sponsored initiative which involves targeted teaching for students from Years 8-10, identified through diagnostic and teacher compiled assessment data, to enable them to improve and enjoy some success in their literacy and numeracy skills. Due to the small group sizes, it enables the teacher to develop a good working relationship with the students involved, lending a strong pastoral care element to the program.  MYLNS Literacy support occurs in-class, in consultation with teachers, and works to support students with the literacy demands of the English curriculum, while MYLNS numeracy occurs one on one and in small groups outside of the classroom but still in consultation with teachers.

The Tutoring Initiative has continued for 2022. This program aims to support students at all achievement levels in Maths and English catch up on skills they have missed during remote learning. It operates for Years 7 – 12 and occurs in withdrawal group focusing on either additional support or extension. These groups will be fluid with students moving in and out of the program throughout the year.   We are hoping that students will find this helpful as they will be able to go through content more at their level, will be able to seek more clarification and help from the teacher as they will be in smaller groups. After two years of remote learning, we hope this will help to fill some of the missing Maths gaps as well as challenge those students who need it.

For students who need support to build on the foundation of reading skills that they possess we offer a program based on the Fountas and Pinnell Levelled Literacy Intervention (LLI). The aim of the program is to work in Semester blocks through Years 7 and 8, to build reading skills aligned with the Victorian Curriculum. The program includes reading a range of texts, building comprehension, vocabulary development, fluency practice and a little writing about reading. This will better prepare students to succeed in their future studies.

Through these programs we hope to assist numerous students to achieve their best at Frankston High School. Thank you to all of the teachers who have worked so hard to set up these programs.
