ART

We’ve been exploring, responding to and creating so many amazing things in Art lately, especially the beautiful nature around us. We’ve just begun exploring and being inspired by, the rich culture of Indigenous Art and the work of Indigenous Artists. The junior classes have read and responded to the dreamtime story ‘how the birds got their colours’ they then created some colourful Australian animals and yarn animals. The 3-6 students have been learning about  basket weaving; the techniques for basket weaving, how it’s a rich part of Aboriginal culture, what they were used for and they are now creating their own basket out of raffia using similar techniques. We have been looking at the incredible women’s work from Tjanpi Desert Weavers and gained great inspiration from their incredible works of art.

STEM

In STEM, our junior classes had a great time decorating their very own string telephones. They soon worked out the importance of covering their mouth and ear fully when using the telephone, to make sure that all the sound waves were trapped inside the cup and were then able to travel down the taut string to be received loud and clear by their partner. They also loved experimenting with the sound the vibrations made when somebody ran a finger along the string.

SPORT

In sport we have continued with our ultimate frisbee unit. We have had lots of skill development in throwing accuracy and catching the frisbee. In Week 7 the students in grade 1-6 began playing the game. This was super exciting to watch all grade 1/2's enthusiastically getting into the game, 3/4's demonstrated great competitive natures and the 5/6's showed increased skills. The foundation class have continued to increase their frisbee throwing skills, learning to follow the rules of new drills and games.

This week we have started working on game sense strategies in ultimate frisbee. It has been great to see all teams working together, discussing strategies and implementing plays into their games. All games have been very close. Keep up the great work sport Paddys!

ITALIAN

All children in F-2 are enjoying learning about Il Corpo (The body). The Grade 1-2 students traced around their body and labelled parts in Italian. They also made a terrific attempt at writing sentences in Italian to match their body.

Grade 3-6 students have watched “Luca” over 2 lessons after learning about different aspects of the movie including villages in the movie and Italian culture. They even learnt about the history of the vespa which features strongly in the movie. Students enjoyed making vespas out of pasta and constructing 3D models out of cardboard.

Bravissimi!
