Library

Mrs Holley

Welcome back everyone! I hope you’ve had an enjoyable holiday break. Hopefully, you had the opportunity to cosy up somewhere and lose yourself in the pages of a wonderful book.

Not only is Term 3 the busiest time of the year in the library, it is also the most exciting! Term 3 is all about the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s (CBCA) Book of the Year Awards, culminating with Book Week celebrations during Week 6 (August 19th to 25th). During Book Week we will once again be hosting our annual Scholastic Book Fair, as well as our Book Character Parade (Friday August 25th).

Children’s Book Week - August 19th to 25th

“Each year since 1945 the CBCA has brought children and books together across Australia through Children’s Book Week. During this time schools and public libraries spend one glorious week celebrating books and Australian children's authors and illustrators.”

This year the Children’s Book Week Celebrations will be held during August 19-25 (Week 6 of Term 3). The Book Week theme this year is ‘Read, Grow, Inspire’ and “the amazingly talented illustrator” of this year’s poster, Matt Ottley, has brought this theme “to life in the striking flying hero seahorse carrying young readers through an endless, boundary-less sunlight lit space where imagination has unlimited scope for growth and infinite possibility.”

Further information regarding the form Book Week celebrations will take here at St Joseph’s will be advised in Week 4’s newsletter.

Children’s Book Week also recognises the winners of the Children’s Book Council of the Year Awards. As stated previously, the CBCA Book of the Year is broken down into six categories: Older Readers, Younger Readers, Early Childhood, Picture Books, The Eve Pownall Award (for documenting factual content) and the CBCA Award for New Illustrator.

This week I would like to draw your attention to the shortlisted books for Younger Readers, Early Childhood and Picture Books.
