Student Support

Mrs Emily Sullivan

Dear Parents,

Last term we received a generous donation of children's books from HealthWise. HealthWise is a provider of many programs and services including primary and allied health, mental health, Aboriginal health and disaster recovery. The books were selected to support students to better understand the impacts of natural disasters. There is a need to address the known impacts and barriers to recovery and this is a way of assisting individuals with preparedness for future events.

Being psychologically prepared means that natural reactions such as anxiety and worry can be anticipated and managed to help people remain in control and act confidently. We can assist children to develop skills to cope with unexpected events by allowing them to talk about their experiences and learn skills and attitudes to understand and manage the changes brought about by a natural disaster. (Healthwise)

The titles of the books are:

* Heroes of Black Summer - Kylie Miller & Craig Sheather

* The Invisible Web - Patrice Karst (all humanity is connected - peace and compassion)

* The Fire Wombat - Jackie French & Danny Snell

* My Dad The Secret Superhero - Carly & Seb Moone

* Fire - Jackie French & Bruce Whatley

* Drought - Jackie French & Bruce Whatley

* I Am Courage - A Book of Resilience - Susan Verde

If you are interested in borrowing any of the books and accompanying activities, please speak with Mrs Holley or myself.

Kind regards,

Emily Sullivan
