Action-Packed Finish to Term 2

The conclusion of our Term 2 Primary Sports program has been filled with excitement as we wrapped up the last three events within the past week.

Britton Shield Football

The Britton Shield Football competition, held on Friday, 2 June. Clayfield College proudly fielded teams in the U8 and U10 divisions. The trip to Capalaba was brimming with enthusiasm and anticipation for the day ahead.

Our talented teams showcased their skills on the field, scoring goals, making incredible saves, and displaying remarkable teamwork. Although both teams reached the semi-finals, they narrowly missed the chance to compete in the Grand Final. It was particularly tough for the U/8 team, who fell short by a thrilling and nerve-wracking penalty shootout.

Final Results:

  • U8 | 3rd Place
  • U10 | 3rd Place

Andrews Cup Football

Next, it was time for the Andrews Cup team to shine. On Tuesday, 6 June, they travelled to Toowoomba for the carnival. The early start did nothing to dampen the girls' excitement as they stepped outside, feeling the rush of the Toowoomba ranges cold air.

After four rounds of intense matches, our team remained undefeated, tied in points and goals with the St. Margaret's team. The calculations determined that to secure a spot in the Grand Final, our team not only had to win their last game but also score at least 2 goals.

The team delivered their best performance, showcasing exceptional teamwork and passing skills. Mia Palmer stood out in attack, consistently scoring and shooting at goal. Equally impressive was the defence, led by Clare Burke and Emily Blake in goal, who made three consecutive saves.

The final outcome of the game was a hard-fought 1-0 victory, securing a well-deserved 3rd position but unfortunately missing the opportunity to compete in the Grand Final. While there was a palpable sense of disappointment, going undefeated throughout all games was a tremendous achievement for the team.

Special thanks go to the coaches from the Ruiz Football Academy, who ensured both the Britton Shield and Andrews Cup teams were well-prepared for these competitions.

Britton Shield Cross Country Carnival

Finally, the team eagerly participated in the long-awaited rescheduled Cross-Country Competition, which took place on Monday, 5 June, at Moreton Bay Boys’ College.

It was truly rewarding to witness the fruits of their hard work during training. Congratulations to all team members who tackled the challenging course with courage and determination. A special mention goes to our U9 Boys team, who secured 1st place in their age group.

Our best-placed runners in each category were as follows:

  • 8 years | Terrence Lu, 5th place
  • 9 years | Charlie Quinn, 1st place; Hugo Heinemann, 2nd place
  • 10 years | Luke Lisboa, 4th place
  • 12 years |Finn Latimer, 2nd place

Clayfield College finished the day with an impressive 2nd place overall and also claimed 2nd place in the Championship Relay. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our coaches, Mr. Noel McBride and Ms. Heidi Noon, for their guidance and support throughout.
