Volunteer Interview

Julia Esmonde

Why do you volunteer at BNPS?

I volunteer at the school for a few reasons:

  • I can see the inside world of my children’s school life.
  • I get a chance to meet parents I may not otherwise meet.
  • I get an opportunity to see how my children interact at school.
  • My children get a real buzz when I volunteer at school.

What year level are your children in?

Frankie is in Year 1 and Saxon is in Year 3.

What roles have you volunteered for during your time at BNPS?

Canteen – which is so fun as you meet parents from many year levels, reading, school fete stall and other small things that come up from time to time.

What is your background/current role (outside of BNPS!)?

I am a Nurse and work at Sandringham hospital, a GP clinic and a Travel Clinic. I only work 2 - 3 days week as I also have 2 pre-schoolers, a boy Cormac in 4 year old kinder and a girl, Clotilde in 3 year old kinder. I spend my time with them and ferrying my children to and from kinder and school. You may see me on my cargo bike with 2 - 3 children in it riding around the area!

What do you do during your spare time?

Free time is not something I have much of yet! I love being with my family, I love seeing my friends and as a family, we love going camping together or with friends.

What’s the best thing about BNPS?

So many best things!

  • I love the friendships my children and my husband and I have made.
  • I love the programs the school offers.
  • I love all the up to date information the school provides.
  • I love that the communication is so accessible with the school.
  • I love the large and tree-lined oval for the children to play on.
  • I love the Gala we went to recently. I was so proud of the school – the place looked amazing and the whole night was just buzzing with laughter, dance and chatter. It was so wonderful to spend time with the school community socially and dressed up. It was a wonderful night and I think the volunteers did an amazing job!
