INTERNATIONAL GUESTS

The Music Department warmly welcomed Flautist Anna Lisa Pisanu and Percussionist Filippo Lattanzi both from Italy on Monday 12 August. Our guests ran fantastic workshops that encouraged students in their development of musical performance skills. Betty Wang (Year 12) was lucky enough to play one of her VCE performance pieces for Anna and get feedback on developing her style in performance. At recess Anna and Filippo played an incredibly short concert demonstrating the approach that they had spoken about. Thank you to Mr Sergei Golovko for his organisation of this opportunity.

PAST PERFORMANCES

Congratulations to the students in the Ovenden Band who achieved Gold on Tuesday 20 August, and the Symphonic Wind Band who achieved Silver on Wednesday 21 August at the VSMF in Hawthorn. All students represented the school incredibly well and demonstrated their growing understanding of musicianship. Great work to Ms Tracy Videon in her development of the Ovenden Band and Ms Su Rogerson in the development of the Symphonic Wind Band.

ONGOING PERFORMANCES AND REHEARSALS

Please note these dates in your diary for the term for upcoming Performance Opportunities for Term 3:

  • WINTER CONCERT – WEDNESDAY 28 AUGUST
  • Big Band Bash – Friday 13 September
  • Spring Soiree – Monday 16 September
  • Year 12 Music Performance Celebration Night – Thursday 19 September

In preparation for the many performances that will be taking place over the semester, students are reminded that all music students need to keep their attendance up at the core ensemble rehearsals. Being a part of these ensembles helps develop group skills, aural work, sight-reading, widens their experience and musical style and often involves performing for community groups, other schools and functions within the school community.

Rehearsals are held as follows:

  • Symphonic Wind – Monday afterschool 3:30 - 5pm
  • Keenan Strings – Thursday before school 7:45am
  • Orchestra – Thursday afterschool 3:30 - 5pm
  • McKinnon Choir – Thursday lunch time
  • Ovenden band – Friday before school 7:45am

We look forward to seeing all students at their respective ensemble rehearsal.
