OUTDOOR EDUCATION

Year 9 OutEd -      Surf Camp

On the 18th and 19th of May the two Year 9 Outdoor Education classes attended the Surf Camp in Anglesea. For some of the students this was their first time surfing and camping and as result they were taken outside of their comfort zones, thus experiencing personal growth.

Day 1

Students met at Melton Secondary at 8:30am and loaded up the buses ready for the trip. We arrived at Anglesea and set up campsite before taking on the waves at Anglesea Main Beach. Each student progressed in their surfing abilities and many managed to stand up and ride the waves all the way into the beach (which was really impressive for their first time). Much fun was had and the instructors were impressed with their endeavour and behaviour. We returned to the campsite and had a great afternoon with a beach walk and the inflatable pillow.

Day 2

Students up at 7:00am to pack up campsite and cook breakfast. Bacon and eggs were on the menu so frowns from waking up early turned into grateful smiles. After campsite was packed up and breakfast was eaten it was off to Airey’s Inlet to visit Eagle Rock Marine Sanctuary and complete a section of the Surf Coast walk.

Overall the students who participated in the camp learnt new skills and walked away having a great time while appreciating nature.

Year 12 Outdoor Enviormental Studies - Trees Adventure

As apart of the Year 12 Outdoor Environmental Studies course students are required to participate in a variety of activities aimed at giving them practical experiences to discuss on their end of year exam. The Trees Adventure excursion is not only a fun and rewarding experience it also allows students to discuss how technology effects participant’s relationship with outdoor environments.

Students arrived to school nice and early for the long drive to Glen Harrow Gardens, Belgrave for the Trees Adventure excursion.

The excursion is essentially an obstacle course in the trees and at stages you are quite high (10 meters in the air). You are quite safe as you are hooked up in a harness (however it doesn’t stop you feeling a little scared) and have a variety of challenges to work through. For e.g. tightrope walk, flying fox, cargo net etc.

All students enjoyed themselves and achieved the main goal of providing another practical experience to discuss on their end of year exam.
