PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Winter Arts Concert
The Arts at Melton Secondary College came alive again last night with a fantastic show of talent and creativity in the Winter Arts Concert. It was great to see so many families and college staff in attendance to see more than ninety students perform their acts. Performances were seen from a Science-Drama act, Guitar, Brass and Junior Ensembles, the Senior, Junior and Brass Bands, Melton's got Talent prize-winners and the wonderful Multination singing and dancing the Hakka which finished off the night with a loud burst of Aotearo (New Zealand) spirit. It is impossible to single out any one performance when students step bravely up onto the stage to sing, act, or play in front of an audience. And it wasn't just courage on display but real skill, the kind that comes from practice and through the
patience and commitment of teachers. A special thanks to the Arts Specialism Team: Erin Heycox, Marissa Panagenas, Emma Waheed, Justine Jackson and the many other staff and students who worked behind the scenes arranging the event.
End of Semester Assembly
At the end of semester assembly our Student Leaders outlined their plan to put in place a House STARR Awards points system. The system will mean that students will be awarded points for showing behaviour that reflects our College Values. I took the opportunity to remind students that we want students to treat themselves and others with Kindness and that when we see and hear this in our words and behaviors we will feel more comfortable and have greater confidence in our learning.
Farewells
We wish a number of staff farewell at the end of this semester as they take leave or move onto other positions. Most notable is the farewell for Margaret Cannaway who has been at Melton Secondary College for more than twenty years and is retiring. We wish Margaret all the best and thank her for her strong and passionate contribution to the education of many students over this time.
