Teacher Training
Debbii Woods and Tania Bradbury enjoyed attending a course at Bathurst RSL presented by Anne Squire for students with chromosomal disorders. Anne shared her vast knowledge and advice reflecting current research and practice on medical issues, characteristics & specific learning styles; intellectual impairment, sensory issues, memory, visual & auditory processing, physical characteristics, social & emotional development, sexual development, mental health, role of staff in supporting the student, recording, programs, assessment, teacher assistant support; maximising support hours, effective use of assistant time, developing independence with these students; setting up contracts, peer support, understanding & supporting behaviour - using visuals and a team approach to problem solving.
Debbii & Tania found the day very informative and have since returned to Cowra High with many ideas to ensure their teaching of these students will assist them to become more independent in preparation for their future.
