Mission & Identity

The ‘Sweeter than Honey’ Scripture Summit explored creative ways to interact with scripture.

Everyone has settled back into College life and students and staff appear ready to being an exciting Term 3. Already much has been happening across the College. Several St Pius and Mercy College students who performed at the Australia Youth Festival in December, were invited to present a musical drama to over 300 staff and clergy from the Broken Bay Diocese. Students performed at the ‘Sweeter than Honey’ Scripture Summit, which explored creative ways to interact with scripture. The performance was excellent and the students were a credit to both schools.

I have just returned from Melbourne where I attended the National Identity Leaders Conference. Together with other Identity Leaders, we explored the importance of Identity in our colleges together with a session where we envisaged what Mission and Identity will look like in our schools in ten years and into the future. The charism of our schools has a distinct focus on Social Justice which is indeed an important aspect of all EREA schools including St Pius. Wayne Tinsey our National Director spoke to us about the role and importance of Identity. He said that we can never be complacent about this important aspect of all our communities. He also said that the diversity of the way the charism of Edmund Rice is expressed in EREA schools is one of our major strengths. At times this can be messy and even uncomfortable as we forge forward assisting our students to find a deep sense of the Divine within themselves and their world.
