Chang - Sport report

This semester has been jam packed full of many sporting events with competitors from the Chang Cluster achieving great success. During Cluster soccer,  Chang managed to come out on top beating Truganini in a very close game. This was so exciting for us and gives us great confidence going into this terms Cluster sports of the Olympic Games! This is a new introduction to the cluster sports games with a different sport played from the Olympics every week. The first week we involved a highly energetic game of Volleyball. Our boys played an outstanding match, defeating Bradman. The girls got out to an early lead but just missed out on the win in the end.

Outside of the College, this year saw the introduction of a male and female Waterpolo team with many of the year 12s from Chang participating. We travelled to Melbourne High and competed against different schools from around Victoria. With limited experience and preparation, we were all very surprised at just how good we were with the girls coming second and the boys winning their division. We are now in the process of training for both boys and girls hockey teams as well as a one off match for the Girls AFL team against Overnewton. Trials for athletics have concluded and now training will begin in preparation for SACCSS Athletics Day.

With this considered, there is still much work to be done in the sporting arena for the athletes of Chang. With the O’Reilly Shield within our reach, let’s keep up the competitive spirit and win some more points for Chang!

Christopher Melham – Year 11 Report

As we begin to reach the half way mark through term 3, it's essential to take time out to reflect and acknowledge past and future successes in the Chang community. I'd personally like to commemorate Chang's own Lorenzo Antonio on making the trip across the world with some of his fellow Catholic Regional College Sydenham peers to participate in World Youth Day 2016 in Krakòw, Poland. World Youth Day is an international Catholic event focused on faith and youth which is organised by the Catholic Church. It's important to recognise their dedication and commitment to not only their religion, but to their community and proudly representing everything we stand for here at Catholic Regional College Sydenham.

In the weeks to come there are many exciting festivities and initiatives surrounding Chang. We are currently in preparation for presenting our annual Chang fundraiser with a winter warmer! Details on our fundraiser are to be announced shortly, we would welcome any feedback or suggestions you may have. We are also approaching our College Awards ceremony where members of our cluster are recognised for their commitment, participation and passion in our Chang community. There's always various exciting news and activities revolving around Chang so be sure to always stay tuned to see what's going on in our Cluster.

Year 12 Report

With the start of Semester 2, and the end of Semester 1. Chang has achieved many great things as a community and individually. One of the highlights of Semester 1, was the College Feast Day. The day started with the celebration of the Eucharist with Fr. O'Rielley leading the event. Each Chang Home group were given the task to create a stall which led to many great ideas such as Nachos, Sumo Wrestling, Bowling and etc. Students from Chang were also successful in the College Talent Quest. We also succeeded in the recent Cluster Sport Competition, with Chang making it to the finals and winning the title. Earlier on Chang also contributed to the Badge Drive helping out with reaching the $10,000 goal to support Mercy Hospice Care. Chang 1 was definitely engaged with this social justice initiative with every member of the class purchasing a badge. Overall, Semester 1, was definitely a success for the cluster and its students and I hope Chang more achievements in the college especially with this last semester for year twelves.
