Student Leadership Group

To kick of Term 3 at Catholic Regional College Sydenham, we focus our hearts and minds on the concept of Social Justice. As students of a catholic community, we understand the meaning of social justice to be the idea of the Good Samaritan, who stands up for those who experience inequality and oppression within our society. Our main purpose within the college community is to create awareness and offer support to those in need.

Within our college community, we involve ourselves with many social justice organisations. We support men and women who may be experiencing homelessness through Ozanam House and Mcauley House.  We support CatholicCare, fundraising towards Mercy Palliative Care, Project Compassion (Caritas) and our on-going commitment to Timor Leste. Each Cluster has also committed itself to fundraising for an organisation.

Within the Student Leadership Group, many of us have already started planning our ideas for our social justice term. Emma Foley (Arts Learning Area Captain) and myself, are currently in the process of promoting peace and celebrating our college diversity and cultural heritage. By doing so, we have placed a world map on our SLG Board (located near the office) which will soon to be covered in multi-coloured pins, the pins will be placed upon multiple countries which will be used to represent each and every individual here at Catholic Regional College Sydenham.

Everyone has the opportunity to get involved within our Social Justice Term for 2016. You can make a difference by visiting Ozanam House, in which students are accompanied by a teacher to serve dinners to the homeless. You are able to help within your cluster, as each cluster will be fundraising towards their chosen charity or, you are able to help out the school with our fundraising towards Timor Leste, which helps many children out to buy stationary and basic necessities. But most importantly, if you have your own project or idea do not hesitate to contact Ashleigh Azzopardi (azza@crcsydenham.net) or one of the SLG members!

As a community we can unite together and make a difference.
