HPV - MARYBOROUGH

HPV - MARYBOROUGH

The Victorian HPV series finished with a bang at Casey fields for the final 6 hour race.  With 6 MERT teams ready and raring we left the school at 6:30am to clear the track by 8am and race from 10am onwards.

This was MERT’s first time entering a team in the ‘masters’ category and the Apostles were keen to begin with but pretty tired by 3:00pm with one hour to go. The apostles team was made up of 7 parents plus Heidi Lockyer the team coordinator, they had a blast completing 75 laps and finished 6th in the masters category.

Our open team Track Burners were ace on the day finishing 17th in their category of 25 to some of the fastest trikes on track for the day. The open category consists of predominantly boys teams. Our team is made up of year 8 boys who competed fiercely and are making a name for themselves.

Our junior team Space Monkeys came 13th in their category and showed an awesome display of sportsmanship, rotating smoothly with great work in the pits during change-overs. The space monkeys team are our year 7 team who race with 4 boys and 4 girls over the 6 hours.

MERT has consistently entered 2 or more all female teams at each race and were proud to be pioneering the female teams in HPV.

Our middle girls made of year 8 students had a stellar year and finished 2nd in their category over the series. With 63 laps, this race they finished 3rd in the category which still means they placed.

These girls also farewelled their beloved team-mate Emmy Smith prior to the race and did her proud coming 3rd.

The Dinky Dots performed well under pressure in a tight race between two long time rivals. For the 6 hour race they finished 2nd in the category, 2 laps short of the win, but thanks to 2 very strong races earlier in the season, our 6 year 10 girls, claimed the ‘Senior Female’ series win for the 4th year in a row.

The Unicorn Hunters were superb for the series final completing 93 laps. In the open category they placed 6th for the race and our senior boys did well against a fit Caufield Grammar team.
