PRINCIPAL'S REPORT
Mount Eliza Secondary College acknowledged for high performance.
Last week I was invited to a Regional Education Department event where leaders from our state system worked with regional staff to consider the progress of schools in relation to improving student achievement and wellbeing. We are part of the South Eastern Victoria Region, which extends from St. Kilda to Mallacoota. I was invited to talk about what this school has done to become one of only six secondary schools who had shown continuous improvement in year 9 NAPLAN outcomes since 2017.
A challenge for all education systems, both state and private, has been maintaining good learning growth for students from years 7 – 9, and we have been successful in achieving this growth in both Reading and Numeracy.
MESC has a 32% of its students achieving high learning growth during this period in Numeracy. This means students have exceeded the expected growth of one Victorian Curriculum level per year. Comparison schools [with similar levels of advantage, and similar percentages of students with English as a second language] achieved 22% high learning growth.
In Reading, we have 26% of our students achieving high learning growth, compared to 22% of similar schools.
It is our belief that great schools are those where all students have the opportunity, encouragement and environment to achieve to their capacity. Even though we are a high performing school where our students are successful, we do not believe that good results are the measure of a good school.
It is the extent to which learning growth occurs that shows the value that the school genuinely adds to each student’s personal achievement.
Congratulations staff and students!

FAREWELL CLASS OF 2019
It is with a great sense of pride and a touch of sadness that we are saying good bye to our Year 12 students. It has been amazing to witness their journey over the last 6 years and to see their growth into confident and successful young adults. We are wishing them all the best for the exam period and for next year, which will be so crucial in terms of their future pathways.
FINAL ASSEMBLY
On Monday the 21st of October our Year 12 students were farewelled by both staff and students in a whole school assembly. The assembly was a fantastic opportunity for our senior students to share their experiences, best moments and words of wisdom with other year levels. They were welcomed to the Assembly by Year 7 students and farewelled by teachers who held a guard of honour for them as they left Banksia Hall for the final time.
VALEDICTORY DINNER
In celebration of the graduation of our 2019 Year 12 students, teachers and families of our Year 12 students attended the 2019 Valedictory Dinner.
Completing Year 12 is a major achievement and the dinner was a wonderful opportunity for students, families and MESC staff to recognise their successes.
We would like to acknowledge the following students who received special awards at the Valedictory dinner:
Tom Gibson - VCE Valedictorian
Jimmy Beal - VCAL Valedictorian
Holly Finlay & Nathan Mann - Teachers Award
Bella Worrall - Proteads Award
Lauren Sexton - Long Tan Defence Award
YEAR 12 CELEBRATION DAY
What an amazing day it was! With Year 12s (an even the Senior School Team) dressing up and showing off their costumes early in the morning, followed by Laser Tag and Go-Karting with lots of laughter and fun photos! The day concluded with a farewell lunch, where students and teachers were able to share their memories and future plans in a catered lunch in the sunshine.
