Science

We have had an exciting start to the year in science. The Foundation students have be learning all about living and non-living things. Grade 1 and 2 students have begun to investigate the common features of the different types of mini-beasts. They are very excited to have silkworms (hopefully) hatching in their rooms in the next few days.

Grade 3 and 4 students are discovering how animals can have slight differences in their features, such as beaks, that can help with their survival. They had lots of fun trying out different types of beaks to find which ones worked the best for different situations.

Grade 5 and 6 students are learning all about what can survive in an Australian desert. We graphed the average temperature and rainfall for the Simpson desert using a line and column graph. Everyone was surprised to find that while we get more rainfall in winter/ spring, they have more in Summer/ Autumn.

The kids have all been introduced to our newest additions to the classroom, several stick insects!
