Year 5

Project Compassion Fundraiser

Last week some of the Year 5 students came together to hold a fundraising stall to raise money for Project Compassion. For the stall, we made and sold many things including bookmarks, cupcakes and lucky dip prizes. Something that worked out well was the bookmarks. We made over 100 bookmarks and 70 were sold by the end of the first day and on the second day we only had 30 left.

What we sold.

We sold some delicious cakes like cupcakes, rice crackles and choc chip banana bread slices. The cupcakes Mia had made were very popular and sold out on the first day! On the Second day, Alex made rice cakes and choc -chip banana cakes. They too sold out very quickly.

For the lucky dip prizes, we created one that was age appropriate for Juniors Foundation- Year 3 and one for Seniors Year 4-Year 6. To make the lucky dips, we each donated items such as Kikki K Diaries, Pens, Beanie Boos, bracelets, lollies and other fun toys for people to enjoy!

How the idea came about.

My sister was reading a new book she got at a bookstore the other day, but forgot to buy a book mark. I saw her making it and thought it would be a good business model. Originally I was going to do it for myself, but I thought it would be great to donate the profits to Project Compassion and so I recruited Sumire who recruited Pia, Alex, Mia and then Jess. The ideas began expanding as we thought of selling cupcakes, lucky dip and Beanie Boos as well as the bookmarks.

The first day we raised $120.90 and on the second day we raised $98.00, in total we raised $218.00. The process was hard but with the help of St James, many great ideas and support from teachers as well as the students, we worked together to create such a wonderful and successful event. Thank you to all the students who bought something from our shop, we very much appreciate your generous donations towards Project Compassion.

‘Top of the mornin to ye all’

On March 17th, the little preps transformed from children into mighty Irish leprechauns. They learned all about Saint Patrick and how he was a shepherd who looked after his sheep just like Jesus looks after us. We sang the sheep song that we love so much and felt very Irish indeed.

During Maths, we counted all the gold that we found at the end of the rainbow and we placed it in our leprechaun pots. We were happy to share the gold as we are kind and caring leprechauns here in Prep.

Leprechaun Fenwick, otherwise known as Charlie F, went around the school and blessed all the classes with a big Irish hello and gave them a golden coin for luck and fortune.

Ms Tierney did not Irish dance for us, but she did speak to us in Irish, which sounded very different. We have no idea what she says when she speaks in English so it was very tricky listening to her in a different language. It was so cool.

Thanks for listening.

Go n-éirí an t-ádh leat (Guh n'ayr'ee an tah leath): “May luck rise to you!”
