Our School Vision

“Cheltenham East students are empowered learners who are flexible thinkers with the skills and knowledge to respond critically and creatively to their world.”

Acknowledgement

Some of our Year 3/4 students will be doing an acknowledgement to Country each Monday morning at 9am over the loud speaker.

I would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land on which we are gathered and pay our respects to the elders past, present and emerging of the Bunurong people and extend that respect to other indigenous Australians in the community.

End of Term Dismissal

The last day of this term is today, Friday 16th September.  A special assembly will take place on the stage area at 2.10pm and the children will be dismissed at 2:30pm on this day.  I ask parents to ensure they have arrangements in place for their children to be collected at this time.

Long Service Leave

I will be taking Long Service Leave in Term 4 after the holidays, and Mrs Leisel Ward will be the Acting Principal and Mr Josh Bourke will be the Acting Assistant Principal for the term. They will continue to do a fantastic job of running the school and ensuring the programs will continue uninterrupted.

Working Bee

Unfortunately it was not a big turnout on Sunday but there were a lot of jobs finished on the day.  Thankyou so much to the families who pitched in to help.  The following jobs were completed on the day:

  • Replace split borders around the adventure playground area (Huge thankyou to Emma)
  • Re painting the Year 5 and 6 portable steps
  • Re painting yellow markings around the school
  • Redesigning and weeding hall garden area
  • Painting the concrete fence on Silver St at the front of the school with a new colour
  • Painting the BER doors
  • Removing dead shrubs and trees
  • Putting up new basketball nets
  • Putting painted bollards back into the ground near the eating area

The school wall on Silver St looks so much better with a fresh coat of paint!

Dancesport Confidence in Year 5

Last night the Year 5 students performed at the Dancesport Confidence Gala night at St Louis PS. It was the culmination of a lot of work by these children and the result was astonishing. Throughout the 10 week program the year 5 students grew in confidence and resilence as they experience dedicated teaching sessions on the social and emotional capabilites with their instructor Karla. From this, they then put it into practise as they learnt partner dancing to the point where they were capable of presenting their new skills in a public environment. Our Year 5 students representeed our school incredibly well and showed our school values with excellence. Mrs Ward and I are most proud of their effort, persistence and engagement in the program and on the performance night. Two other schools - Mentone PS and Seaford North PS were also performing. It was a credit to the year 5 staff and students and we are very proud of all of you. They have learnt a lot about themselves and the other children in Year 5. What a wonderful celebration of learning!

Parents Committee Funds

The Parents and Friends Committee have raised funds from their fundraising drives this year.  We have already spent some on a variety of items.  The cricket pitch is a priority as it is really worn and looks terrible.  We are in the process of getting quotes for new matting to be laid on top of the pitch and replace the old matting.  This will not only provide a safer place to play but also lift the look of the oval in the future.  We are also looking at a new electronic sign at the Silver St entrance to replace the old sign which is sitting in the carpark which looks old and needs replacing.

The big vision for the future is looking at replacing the junior playground equipment with new equipment. This will take an amazing amount of fund raising but will be of great benefit to the school in the future.

Sun Smart Uniform

As we are a Sun Smart school, Term 4 week 2 will be hats on for all children at school once again.  If your child has lost their hat please make sure that it is either found or replaced through the Primary School Wear uniform shop.  Any children without an approved school hat will be directed to a shaded area during recess and lunchtimes.  Children should also be wearing an approved school uniform to school as per the school uniform policy.  Please ensure closed toed shoes are worn to school.

Cut down on Litter

We actively encourage our students to avoid bringing packets and plastic wrappers (Nude Food) to school. It cuts down on litter and is much better for the environment.  A named container is perfect.

Attendance/Punctuality

“It’s not okay to be away!” Every minute counts!  When students stay away from school their learning and friendships are affected.  When children arrive late, they interrupt the learning of other students as well as valuable teaching time.  We really look forward to the support of our families in ensuring our students absolutely maximise their educational possibilities by being here ON TIME, EVERY TIME.  All late arrivals and early departures to and from school are documented, including the reasons given.  Please inform the school with a reasonable excuse, on all the occasions this occurs.

School Values

The children will continue working closely together through the coming winter months. This is a great time to reinforce our school values of RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, COURTESY and CO-OPERATION with all children.  Filling someone’s bucket of kindness should be a priority for all children and adults.  Helping others is to be encouraged by everyone and can be done in a variety of ways.  It is great to see our Year 6 children looking after the younger children out in the yard.
