Two weeks ago, we (Emily, Campbell and Hassan) attended VicSRC’s Annual Congress.

Congress is an event for Victorian Secondary School students to discuss the most important issues in education, and to come up with ways to resolve them. We got to vote on topics we believed were the most important, and create plans which will help VicSRC (Victorian Student Representative Council) know how we want the topic addressed. We worked in groups dedicated to a certain issue, such as a mental health task force or Indigenous recognition in schools.

Over the course of the next year, VicSRC will be fighting to implement these ideas in the education system. VicSRC is an organisation that is run by students, for students that advocate for change and welfare within the Victorian Education system. They believe that as it is students that attend schools, they should be the ones that we go to when it is felt that changes need to be made. The only way that schools are going to improve is if the students who attend them voice that they want certain things changed.

The best way to promote the sense of community in our school is to improve our experiences and the environment we learn in, and the only way to do that is to speak up.

The voice of us students is what can make the change we want to see.

Thank you to Mr Collings and Mr Russell for giving us the opportunity to attend VicSRC’s Congress event this year.

As just a quick reminder to the students, if there's anything you feel as though you would like to see changed, improved or introduced to Cheltenham Secondary College, please speak to one of our SRC representatives. SRC applications are also open now, and we strongly recommend you joining us in 2023!

Thursday 5th September we celebrated both Footy Colours Day and R U OK? Day.  Students dressed in their footy colours and donated a gold coin.  Nearly $700 was raised on the day.  The funds will be split amongst both, Fight Cancer Foundation Footy Colours Day and R U OK? charities.
